I know this isn't exactly the place to discuss actual literature, but does anyone know where I could find some good critical works/explainations of John Keats' work? Specifically on either The Eve of St. Agnes or Isabella, or the Pot of Basil. Recorded lectures would be especially welcome.

Sorry in advance for possibly being a retard/lit casual I'm considering taking an A-Level in philosophy, so the teacher suggested I read two book and make my decision then, the first book is 'Sophie's World' by Jostein Gaardner, the other one is called 'Regeneration'. My problem is that I'm not sure which book called regeneration he was talking about, there are obviously many, after reading the blurbs of two I know that one is about the war, and another about a girl who discovers her clone and poses philosophical questions about it. I would guess that he was speaking of the second one, but others have told me that it was probably the first that he meant. Any ideas? I have only a week or so to read it so I'd like to find out as soon as possible which one it is Also, any recommendations of other easily digestible books with a philosophical theme? Thanks!

Hi /li/. First of all I want to say that this is a serious matter. I know everyone here likes to play and joke, and I think it's cool. But now I will speak of something very intimate and serious, and would like to ask for your help. I suffer from anxiety disorder. At first it was general, and varied from situation to situation (my first crisis was about 3 years ago). However, now the anxiety is attacking me during the time I do what I like to do moust: write. Whenever I sit down to write literature, I start to feel chest tightness, palpitations, shortness of breath and dizziness. This prevents me from working. I'm doing medical treatment (consulting a psychiatrist), and I've been taking a drug called Escitalopram (known in Brazil as Exodus or Lexapro - I'm Brazilian). However, it's been 44 days that I am taking the medicine, but it does not seem to be working. I feel very bad because I'm afraid of never again be able to write, and writing is my life, (is what gives meaning to my existence). When we are with the flu, with some inflammation, or hungover, we know the horrible symptoms will pass, it's only a matter of time. But psychological diseases are not like that: we do not know whether they will pass or not. I wanted to ask if anyone here has suffered with anxiety (especially with anxiety at the time of writing, with symptoms such as dizziness, shortness of breath and chest tightness). I wonder what medicine is, in his opinion, is the best against anxiety. Any advice will be very welcome. I appreciate the help.

Hi /lit/, I'm new to reading (working on it) and just finished The Stranger by A. Camus (read it in French) Now, I've seen this book pop up on several websites and forums, praising it for how DEEP it is. I don't know why, but it didn't seem that philosophical to me. I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it because of how well written it was, but it's not like it changed something in me. So I was wondering if it's just me, or is this book too overrated?

English Regulation

Why do the plebs have the right to use the Queen's English retardedly? Shouldn't dictionaries regulate english? I mean, if we don't use dictionaries as regulators then pretty soon people will describe "fiery to the touch" as "cold". In every other field experts create councils and vote on what is most true, why can't english have this same force?

Friendship built, trust constructed Without friendship, some things couldn't be Without trust, everything will be destructed Without you, I wouldn't be. The stars are infinite, like my love The sunrise is beautiful, like your face The sunlight enlightens the world, as you do mine. To plant love, is the same as planting flowers For something to grow good, it needs some powers. I will give you some, but i need some back too. There is nothing i wouldn't do for you. Like the sun is burning for the planet, My heart is burning for you. Like the planet depends on the sun, My heart depends on you, 'hun. my heart is strong like iron, for this endless love that's not dyin'. but still as soft as fur, to comfort you as no other

Hey /lit/, I've decided to learn German. After some thought I realized how silly it is for me to only know English and the only thing holding me back in public school was the ridicule from other classmates and not wanting to sound/look weird in front of certain people. I've outgrown this of course. I'm using the Michel Thomas method, but what would you recommend I read/watch/do to help me learn more or pick up a better German accent? After this I'll give French a try, or whatever else. Thanks.

The whole book is just "Bean is super fucking awesome amazing holy shit smarter than the entire universe by age 0.5, he's better than all of us ever and knows everything right away perfection incredible how is this even possible god is at work what do we do, we're trying to use him but he's using us because he is super mega genius better scores than everybody at everything ever." Hey, /lit/. Can you critique my poem? It's the first poem of mine to ever be published. It's called "wasteland sestina" Languid spirits in the landfill with bodies full of sound, their eyes on the highway spent lots of hours gone before the light that came to listen, to tremble, wail and glisten over wet heaps in the landfill. Before sound stirred the heaps of trash, and ants had gone into holes in the highway, someone would sew dreams into the highway. She would listen, but the ants were gone, heaping leaves onto their own small landfill. Light never made a sound before, but there were never dreams before an hour to an ant was a lifetime on the highway. Sound is matter and matter is sound. If you would give your car a listen, you'd know there are many landfills inside its heart, gone the way many friends have gone so many times before, coming apart in a landfill like collapsing stacks of cards. The highway listens for them to make a sound. Their lives and deaths are sound. Their structured cells are gone. The ants don't want to listen and they never did before. Between city and plain is a landfill and a highway. All good things make sound before they listen, then are gone, thrown off the highway and into the landfill.

Hey lit What do you read when you can't read anything? I've never really had this problem before, but I just don't seem to enjoy anything I (try to) read lately. This summer I went through a whole slew of books I really enjoyed, but now everything I read seems....annoying. I feel annoyed by the author, or bored. I've been going through a lot of stress lately, shit going on in my life, but it's never made me not want to read. In fact, I've usually found solace and escape in books. I tried "Cloud Atlas", but put it aside because I was wanting something clear and light, not something I wanted to interpret or look into or be patient with, just not in the mood for that right now. "Hey" I said to myself, "why don't you try something light? Your life is a difficult puzzle made of shit right now so why read a book that taxes your brain? Give your brain some candy." So I picked up "Good Omens" by Gaiman and Pratchett....looked light and easy, but I just can't get into it. It's flimsy and shallow and hackneyed. Is there anything deep, but not an ocean, and shallow, but not a puddle? I miss reading.

Anyone want to read my persuasive speech? I chose to attempt to persuade my audience that my persuasive speech is better than their persuasive speech... I'll attach a full copy if anyone wants...Here's a sample. To begin with, I have entertained you: until now and for the rest of my time in front of you. You might not realize it, but deep within your conscious exists an active joy that will disappear after the duration of this speech. You will listen simply because my speech has proven itself unique from the masses of other proposals you will surely attempt to ignore. The droning of words provided by others will invade your mind and force you to expect the worse, as soon as someone steps up to the podium. You crave ingenuity, and my verbalizations of your feelings fulfill such a desire. You have never heard a speech like mine in the history of *blankschoolname* persuasive speeches, and that quality provides itself as reason for you to appreciate it in the way you surely do.

Wedding Portrait By David Dominguez Yesterday afternoon, I hung a framed print in the living room— a task that took two head-throbbing hours. It’s a wedding portrait that we love: Frida and Diego Rivera. I wonder how two people could consistently hurt each other, but still feel love so deeply as their bones turned into dust? Before Frida died, she painted a watermelon still life; before his death, Diego did too. I want to believe that those paintings were composed during parallel moments because of their undying devotion. If I close my eyes, I can see melon wedges left like centerpieces except for the slice Diego put on the table’s corner— one piece of fruit pecked at by a dove that passed through a window. I know that I won’t be building a bookshelf anytime soon and that the chances of me constructing a roll-top desk are as slim as me building an Adirondack chair that sits plumb, but I’m good with the spackle and putty knives in my tool belt. The knots in my back might not be there if I had listened to her suggestions, and I could well have done without two hours of silence over a few holes in the wall. But somehow, life has its ways of working things out. This afternoon, I shut the blinds, turned off the TV, lights, and phone, and massaged my wife’s feet to fight off a migraine—

hey lit, want to read my bullshit poem? I'm going to kill myself. I made a suicide note. I read it to my mom first, you know because I wanted to see if she cared. to those who found me straight up I'm a loser a real motherfucking magnet of pain and negative energy derails my brain like im mundane, mentally no thoughts excite me anymore always catastrophically colliding with my enemy self witness to the testomonial of a man with a gun in his mouth so I have to write my pain to my fans buut I have none. the cops will be here soon. maybe i'll start to make some. my mom was like, "wow that was really good, son why dont you use that gift to make something positive?" the blood on the walls looks like a hawk, bitch art. tumbled to a generation of nihilists which you helped create with your major mistakes topped only by me and marriage and that was the last time we spoke. I work at a grocery store and wear a red hat i eat a lot of chocolate, my teeth look like shit. i bet you didn't like me. and shit like that. like we were friends at first because you thought i was friendly, but i exposed my mind and habits turned you off. my grandmother told me to always be myself. shit's confusing. speaking of old people the last person that made me smile was 74. she smiled and asked me for eckslax. Nah, we don't carry eckslax. We carry guns, but we don't carry eckslax. South Carolina. a real champ she was, and those are the people i'll miss. "how the hell did you get so old?" "imagine your future" she told me. i arrived to the pearly gates with a basket of groceries in my hand I knew the line was going to be long well in advance so i packed that and a blanket with my tooth brush. the guy with the beard shouted from his pedestal. you know the guy with the long white beard and the pony tail. looks a lot like George carlin. "Suicides to the left... Line 24D" was it Matthew, or Simon, or Peter? Is it Paul? Who fucking cares. "Were you starving for attention?" I asked the first guy.
