The Man Who Folded Himself

Just finished this. Anyone else read it? It was pretty good, I enjoyed the ideas and themes explored. My main critique is how ridiculously narcissistic the main character is. He's just...so self-important it gets a little frustrating. That said, it's not an inaccurate view of the nature of being human. What did you guys think? Also, there any other good time travel books out there?

I like reading about demons like Abalam or Malphas but I am not religious and I do not believe in them, I just like reading about them. Is there a book of demons I can read? Now I look everything up on wikipedia.

Sup /lit/, Was just wondering, that when you read your own work, how do you know when it's objectively good? Do you try to become another person to have a fresh point of view? How do you do that?

what do we stand to gain as human beings from reading books by someone who killed himself? unless maybe you think society is sick or something.. but I don't see people discussing any themes like that here. I mean just from watching videos of this guy its clear he had serious vanity issues.. among other things I cant pinpoint.

What's the best Victor Hugo book to start with? I would like to try something if his, but I don't really know which book is supposed to be his masterpiece. Length doesn't really matter, I have a really boring job where all I can do to pass the time is read.

Please help me. Define existence. Scenario: The world blows up tomorrow from another meteor in Russia. All of human existence is erased. Did we ever exist? Says who? (Or is that the point? Someone needs to be able to SAY WHO. If no ones is able to say we existed; did we?) Scenario: We find out Mars was inhabited by alien life forms 100 billion years ago. We find solid undeniable evidence of their existence: Bones, hair, tentacles ;what have you. The only reason we know it exists, is because we are able to understand what existence is, and claim these martians HAD existed. If we were all dead, or incapable of thinking past that of a chimp, would these aliens ever had existed? TLDR: Is what gives existence its legitimacy merely the existence of beings capable of being understanding what existence is? Pic related, this man exists, or did exist at one point.

What makes an ending bad /lit/? I would argue anything on this grid could be a potentially decent ending. Rather, it is an over reliance on the ending, or an ending that doesn't fit according to the proceeding events makes it bad. Not that plot matters.

"Nobod ever had any use for the ghastly knowledge of a mathematician." Could you write a book about, beginning with or strating with a quote of this sentence ? If yes, what kind of book would it be (short storie(s), novel, poetry...) and what would be its plot/themes/characters/issues/recurring motives ? Feel free to try. Pic related. It is what you got when you google "ghastly mathematician".

Hi everyone, I'm writing a new novel and was hoping to get some opinions. I'm an Ausfag and thinking of setting it in Australia, but I want to know if that will reduce the amount of people who would read it. I know we have a diverse group on here, so please let me know!

Hello /lit/, I've read through the works of H. G. Wells, Fahrenheit 451, Frankenstein, Dracula, 1984 and Animal Farm. All of this in the last few months, and I am currently on an older literature Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Dystopia binge. I am looking for books where it's not a 'hero wins all his fights and saves the world' but more along the lines of animal farm and Frankenstein. Anyone able to help me out with some good suggestions?
