Sorry if this is not a right place to ask this question. What is a good e-book reader? I don't really want to use it for anything else but reading e-books. I have been looking at Nook 6" and am a little worried how convenient it is to read from only 6" screen.

Why are the most pedestrian people such staunch proponents of physical books? Do they really think that rejecting digital books makes them seem more literary and well-read?

why is "interested in the arts" synonymous with "liberal douche"? I like artsy shit, I'm writing a novel, etc. but I'm not a vegan polyamorous communist so I pretty don't talk to anyone about my interests outside of the internet, I wonder why it's like this

hello fellow westerners we have political freedom, freedom of movement, freedom of thought, freedom of speech and probably many other important freedoms that i cannot think of right now. however, we do not have economic freedom. Why do we not have economic freedom? why are not even demanding economic freedom?

I love the covers of the Penguin Classics. The design of their covers (with that black bar containing the title and author's name, and above the black bar an artwork slightly related to the topic of the book - and between the two a white strip) is to me one of the most successful. Post covers of Penguin Classics you find beautiful.

I am finding very hard to put my finger on hipsterism. O.k., it is a subculture formed by middle class urbanites. Check. But is there anything palpable, culturally speaking, beyond indie music, a certain fashion sensibility, liberal attitudes, washed down agnosticism, and some foggy pinch for alternative stuff in freakish media? If that is it, it is profoundly unauthentic, mind you. Is there ANY literary line drawn from hipsterism? Any vague reference to a particular genre or author?

I've got some free time, and I want to do some college level courses online before I apply for my M.A. next year, are there any good websites for this? I've already checked out coursera.org, and many of the others seem to only have engineering/computer science related courses. I'm looking for more humanities/English oriented courses. please help

i was reading An Encounter and i completely missed that the old man wanted to do sexual things with little boys. i thought the narrator (Dedalus) wanted to get away from him because he had been talking about fucking little girls and was being a weirdo. what obvious things in books/stories have gone completely over your head /lit/?

Has anyone else noticed their reading comprehension and ability improving the more they read? I remember as a kid that were certain books I tried to read at a certain age and couldn't understand that a few years later I could but that comes with growing up. But in the past year or so (I'm 22) I've noticed that since I've begun reading regularly by ability to understand and appreciate works has improved. Last year I tried reading As I Lay Dying and couldn't make heads or tails of it, found the style difficult and impenetrable. Currently reading it and finding it simple enough and enjoyable.

Not sure where else to come to with this but... Ok so here's the deal. My grandparents awhile back came into possession of a large piece of paper, an old style made of hemp or some old shit like that. What my grandmother told me was it was a piece of song written by a Monk of sorts during the Dark Ages. Essentially, it may potenially be a lost piece of information or some shit that monks recovered during the Dark Ages. Now, you may question it and have every right to, however my grandparents and their parents before them were very rich and in a very shady crowd. They have old items all around the house so it leads me to believe them. My question is, if it is in fact what my grandmother says it is, what would be the price on such a thing? Is it valuable? Or trash? Maybe priceless? If you guys can give me any information or direct me to somewhere I can find more information about this, please do.

How does /lit/ clean the top of their books? Mine are getting dusty, and I'm not up to wiping down the top of pages with water.
