What do you guys think of Epicurus? I really like his ideas and mostly pragmatic approach to life/existence. Are there other similar philosophers whose works you'd recommend?

My girlfriend has been bothering me to read this for the past 5 months (i'm serious). I've started it before and never got past the second chapter/story. I started reading it again today and again, stopped; I got farther than before though. I'm just so burnt out on this topic. Is are there any really good bits to this or is it all this generic zombie shit? It's not written that well either.

Tell me about your upbringing /lit/. What was your family like and whenever they were well-educated. How does your childhood affects you and (maybe) your writing.

Hello, /lit/ I am trying to learn Chinese here. The best way I could think of (to start) is by reading some books. So after a bit of research I decided to pick up "Learning Chinese Characters" by Tuttle. However, my university doesn't allow me to borrow it. Do you guys recommend any website where I might find this book to download? You must know your away around downloading e-books. I can't torrent here unfortunately. tl;dr: Anyone could help me with finding a direct download link for "Learning Chinese Characters" by Tuttle?

Hi /lit/ This is your daily reminder that dementia breeds dementia. If you absorb what this nutcase wrote as a therapy to avoid going cuckoo for cocoa puffs before he actually did, your brain will turn into pulp. If you see all the other kids embracing the syphilitic as the new shit, remember truth and quality are not a matter of majorities. Just check Justin Bieber's record sales or Da Vinci's Code position in the best seller list. And remember, my little ones, moral absolutes are not only existent but they're also desirable. That is all for today.

With all your reading, what things of use have you gained? The world isn't done being improved yet, it isn't time to read for joy but for knowledge. The only things I got from reading came from Zeno, Socrates, and a few internet posters. Zeno for the indivisibility of space and time, Socrates for the premise-conclusion form, and a few internet posters for thinking for me when I hadn't yet learned how to think for myself.

/lit/ i come to you today as a humble literary novice. I read a lot but the only things I've really read of merit were the fellowship of the ring and a brave new world, I'm trying to put together a list of books to read in the coming 6 months seeing as things have finally quietened down at home, i've put on my list 1984, principe (machiavelli), das kapital (marx) and mein kampf but i'm looking for more, i'm specifically looking for politically motivated or based books and bonus points if they work a lot around appealing to the masses. any suggestions? Also political works general i guess
