This brooding asshole is Tom Riddle from the Harry Potter series, in his twenties. Basically, he's a race/caste motivated gangster and an unsurpassable snob. However, he was an orphan, had a shabby upbringing, got airs and ideas in school, and operated on the margins of society for decades after graduation.
I know art is about form over content, but indulge me. I'm interested in any characters that resemble this one at this period in his life.

Please bear with me here.
>never read any books
>want to kill time
>have a hard time really getting into books
>only book i've read recently is Catcher in the Rye
This may come off as completely ridiculous but I'm looking for a book that follows one main character (similar to Catcher) and the social, psychological and philosophical changes of that character and perhaps their outlook on life. I'm looking for something fairly entry-level, but some movies I like that are a good example of this are American Psycho, American Beauty, Blue Valentine, Silver Lining's Playbook
Any help is appreciated. I'm new to /lit/ and usually browse /mu/ so I apologize in advance if this is the worst post this board has seen in ages.
