What are /lit/'s thoughts on Raymond Carver? Personally, I'm quite a fan. I love the clarity of his poems and many of his short stories are really fantastic.

Sociology is dying and should not

In what other field of study is your subject humanity itself? As quantitative studies point us in the right direction it becomes more and more foreboding that sociology is a rare study for many today. Some would call it a pseudo science but qualitative, therein what is examplorary and quantitative, thereiin what is measured, become far more necessary to grapple the weight of human research. Sociology is a field that understands the depths of the soul. We are not violent creatures, of course this is fact, as Goodall herself in observing primates notices that apes would much prefer eating ants than chasing rabbits.

Finally read Ender's Game. What utter shit. Not that I should have expected different from a book for 12 year olds, but still.

ITT: You post your face when history is considered a niche or quaint study and not the cornerstone of any examination of the human condition How have we fallen so far?

>The principle of sufficient reason is one of four laws of logic which states that nothing is without a causation. An atheist must either reject this principle and therefore the very foundation for scientific causation, or accept the existence of God. Agreed?

Is there a formal name for... common phrases like "the hostess with the mostest"? I babysit like 40 hours a week so I encounter a lot of childrens shows that apparently have a very low bar for becoming a writer. They use EXTREMELY overused jokes and phrases and I don't know what they're actually called. I came across it in my child psychology class too "do these jeans make me look fat?" I don't know how to formally explain my disdain for these overused phrases. Can you help me?

I bought a book by a Man Booker prize winner.

Actually, I bought a book BECAUSE it was written by a Man Booker prise winner. Does this make you angry? That Elanor Catton book, but not the one that got her the prize. Gonna read it soon. >mfw reading a major award winner

Why didn't Heidegger apologize for Being a nazi? Why didn't he radically transform his philosophy to make it a philosophy about the Holocaust, like Levinas and Adorno?

I'm from /sci/ and I have a legit question. Why are there synonyms? Aren't they simply superfluous? Books would be more efficient at telling their stories without synonyms. They could get to the point right away.

I have a horrible habit of constantly looking up basically every word in the dictionary. How can I stop this urge? I look up simple words all the time that I know the meaning to(but I want to make sure of the exact dictionary meaning). Is this a horrible habit? Should I Only be looking up words that I have no clue whatsoever what they mean.
