DAMN IT Neither "finishable" or "completable" are actual WORDS (which i now so desperately need a synonym for) and yet YOLO got into the dictionary - I BLAME ALL OF YOU FOR THIS.

What are /lit/'s thought on Frederick Exley's A Fan's Notes? Personally I love his meandering sort of stream of consciousness style - that's not quite the right phrase for it though. And a lot of his life and outlook hits pretty close to home for me, though I'm not really a Giants fan. But the drinking and masturbating and eating oreos. That part.

Last time i called my publisher they told me to not call them and if there was anything going on with the book they would call me. After that they called and asked me what i think about the cover design. Its been 40 days since they called me for that. Should i wait or should i call them?

Oh my God he seriously did it. I was hoping for years this would not be a thing but it is. He decided to make this. I also love that it is Age of Shiva, but the focus seems to be on the Avatars of Vishnu. I almost want to predict how it ends but I don't mind anyone spoiling it for me.

Tolkien question

Okay, so about the Eye of Sauron: Did Sauron take the form of a giant eye in his weakened state, or is the eye a tool he uses to see all over Middle-Earth? From what I know, I don't think the giant eye on top of Barad-dur is even in the book and Peter Jackson just put the eye in the movie to somewhat personify a faceless enemy. Sonia Sauron just hanging out in a non corporeal form in Barad-due or is he the eye or what? Please excuse if the question is sloppy. I've been drinking.

ITT: Comedic writing Here's my attempt: I stopped smoking when i realized my shit smellled like stale Marlboro. I quit drinking when I saw that I was looking more and more like my dad, and as much as I´d love to have his car, I’d never want to be just like him, and even worse to be like him when he gets wasted. I quit getting stoned when I realized absolutely nothing. I quit having one night stands when I realized girls’ pussies started to feel cold and icy. I quit writing when I realized this shit wasn’t goin anywhere.

Hey, im sure there are some literature / english academics on here, so I have a question: As a scholar, what actual work / research do you perform? Disclaimer: I don't mean that question to be a put-down. You're probably thinking I'm an engineer (and you're right) but I don't mean that question in a dismissive way, and I'd like to say that I'm sure you're all doing important work, I just have some questions about the specifics of it. I double majored in philosophy, and I'm really interested in aesthetics, so please believe me when I say I'm genuinely interested and not just trying to stir shit up. To elaborate, I'm asking: Do you all publish papers about like a new way to interpret a classic work? Or new criteria by which to judge works? How does your work differ from the work of a philosopher writing about aesthetics? What are the major topics in your field right now?

>the first 12 pages, no, first 2 paragraphs of 2666 ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT. Anyone who's reading/read it: help me out. What is it about Bolano's style that can make even 12 pages of text so amazingly vast and sprawling?

Hey, /lit/. Do you have any recommendations when it comes to books about zen? I'm reading "Zen and psychoanalysis" right now, but I probably need some more basic knowledge.

Is there an equivalent of the Loeb Classical Library for the Middle Ages? There's the I Tatti Renaissance Library for the Renaissance. I am not necessarily looking for old/middle English and modern English side by side- rather, a complete, well-bound collection of Medieval texts.

I'm posting here because I'm referring to leaders in legend/literature rather than the actual historical leaders they're based upon. Would it be safe to say that Dietrich von Bern is a parallel to Charlemagne and King Arthur? Or would a better parallel be an early Holy Roman Emperor? I just want to be able associate most important European countries with their Arthurian parallels, if they have them. The problem is that only Britain and France seem to have their own 'Matters of'. If anybody would be able to associate similar legendary leaders to areas like Iberia, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe, or any of the countries within those, I would appreciate it.
