I need your help in finding the name of a book. I read a book ten years ago. I was eight, so I probably didn't finish it. But what I remember is that it was a fantasy book, or at least historical fiction set in the middle ages. And the main character was a teenage boy. Also, one of the first lines was something like; "His hand hurt/throbbed where the innkeeper had put the knife/stabbed him." That's basically it. I know it's super vague but fuck it might as well ask. Hell, I don't even know if it was a book in English at all. Thanks for any help.

what's up, /lit/?

So, I'm about to start fountainhead tonight, just wondering what you guys think/ thought about it? Also, just finished under the volcano what did /lit/ think about it? supposedly the best representation of a drunk in literature, I thought it was such a brilliant fucking book. Wanted to hate Geoffrey but I couldn't help but feeling awful when he died in the end. (though completely necessary from a structural point of view.) I can't see any other way that book could have wrapped up, the imagery and illusion through out the book just wrapped it up so well. Thoughts on one or the other? Picture partially related, Fountainhead being the predecessor to Atlas Shrugged which is my next on my books to read list.

Has anyone here read any of Thomas Ligotti's short stories? I was initially interested in him from his work with Current 93, and finally got around to ordering one of his story compilations today.

Hey, /lit/. Do you have any recommendations when it comes to books about zen? I'm reading "Zen and psychoanalysis" right now, but I probably need some more basic knowledge.

Is there an equivalent of the Loeb Classical Library for the Middle Ages? There's the I Tatti Renaissance Library for the Renaissance. I am not necessarily looking for old/middle English and modern English side by side- rather, a complete, well-bound collection of Medieval texts.

I'm posting here because I'm referring to leaders in legend/literature rather than the actual historical leaders they're based upon. Would it be safe to say that Dietrich von Bern is a parallel to Charlemagne and King Arthur? Or would a better parallel be an early Holy Roman Emperor? I just want to be able associate most important European countries with their Arthurian parallels, if they have them. The problem is that only Britain and France seem to have their own 'Matters of'. If anybody would be able to associate similar legendary leaders to areas like Iberia, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe, or any of the countries within those, I would appreciate it.

This is an interesting idea. Johan Norberg is trying to prove that the free market can fund the creation of a book about the "revolution of freedom". It's about the idea that the famous 1% of the population isn't so powerful after all. If you want to contribute to the project: https://www.fundedbyme.com/en-us/campaign/3057/slutet-ar-nara-och-en-ny-borjan/#content What do you think about the idea?

Who's your favorite hero from Iliad and why? Mine is Diomedes; it's a war machine ready to figh achaean and impels everyone toward the victory.

How does /lit/ screen their potential flames? Usually once I get a girl's number I drop some bad puns to see if she has a sense of humour.

Thoughts on John Green? I didn't expect to enjoy it, but The Fault in our Stars and Looking for Alaska turned out to be pretty good?

I read a excerpt from something someone said sometime. I forget who wrote/said it and the exact words of it. It is something like; "We long for comfort, we long for riches, we long for recognition. We neglect God. But at the end of our lives all we long for is God." Anybody familiar with this?
