It might be my imagination, but after being away for a while it seems to have got a bit better. Slightly less raging tripfriendery, slightly more actual discussion of books.

On the other hand, maybe it just seems that way because I've been visiting /mu/ lately. Jesus, that board.

>>
Bowtie Guy 2013-04-17 02:45:22 No.3665114
I absolutely agree. The average posting quality is much, much higher here than anywhere else. It can be somewhat disturbing to view /lit/ and, say, /v/ side by side.

I suppose it's a much more jarring contrast to the rest of the board when you read /lit/ and /v/ side-by-side. It's very, very impressive for this website, at least. I haven't ever really gotten into tabletop RPGs enough to browse /tg/, but I am mildly interested.

>>3665119
I believe you are referring to /v/.
Or perhaps you're referring to /a/?
Or half the bleeding boards?

The only way I can read /mu/ is as one giant in-joke about patricians and plebs. Then it's pretty funny.

I haven't browsed /mu/ enough to really be sure, as I don't like having my tastes in music called shit because they're too mainstream, but taken out of context, any given thread could pass as a black comedy masterpiece.

Anonymous 2013-04-17 02:56:48 No.3665146
There's too much posturing, pseudo-intellectualism, sniping, trolling, off topic discussion, tripfagging, and general bitching for this to be the "best" board.

I realized that part of the problem is people here have really, really varied interests and tastes. On the off chance that two anons have read the same book, the odds are that they will either disagree on whether it was good or both agree that it was good and leave it at that. I don't see too much discussion of literature because it is simply too large an ocean and the nature of the board makes longterm discussion impossible.

I actually think it would be good if we all started a traditional forum to complement this one.

As opposed to? This board has a lot less of that compared to the other boards/

/wg/
/co/
/ic/
/ck/ from what little experience I've had with it.

/lit/ is above average, which is to say better than more than half, but it's not as good as it could be, but it's trying. And I think more and more, people expect /lit to be good. There seems to be a general consensus against shitposting and low quality trolling. Instead of the sense that happens on some boards where stupid behavior is if not rewarded than accepted as the norm. Here there's a rising sense of, "Stop that."
Though not as much as we could hope for.

Surprisingly, despite /mu's board, their sticky is pretty decent. I know I'm not the only one who goes there only for the sticky.

/lit/ is still good, the unrelated advice/depression threads get kind of annoying though. Loads of comedy gold and good recommendations here.

/int/ is very funny and educational
/diy/ is still pretty helpful and creative
/co/ is...I don't really want to talk about it anymore
/a/ is about the same as it's ever been, which I don't mind
/tg/ is great for discussion and world/character developing
/ic/ is alright, but with a few great threads amidst tons of bad ones
/ck/ is pretty great, probably my favorite board for discussion and humor
/mu/ was good before the sharethreads started waning because of megaupload dying and mediafire deleting everything

/fa/ is pretty meh as of late
/lgbt/ might as well be renamed /trans/
/fit/ isn't very useful aside the sticky and fps

It's not entirely a joke. I once went there pretending that I had a more patrician taste than everyone, and people reacted very defensively and revealed a lot of insecurity.
