this was bad, not just for the messy story and 2d characters but for the wasted potential of the ideas.

I really hope that was Baxter fault, trying to use all the soapboxes he could find (especially Linsey) and Pratchett just filling in with random ideas.

The Long Earth or The Long War? I can't decide whether I care enough to buy the second in the series.

dropped long earth a few pages in, why force yourself to finish something you don't enjoy?

His Alzheimer is finally starting to affect his writing (you can see it in a few Discworld books too)
Bad feels abound.

You do realize all 'Terry Pratchett' work has been ghostwritten by his assistant and his daughter since 2007, right?

the long earth was at least original, but the end was rushed out of nowhere.

The long war is even worst, the different POVs are a mess, short chapters mixed with longer ones, change of pace with no reason.

I can only assume it's Baxter fault since Pratchett is still holding up pretty decent on this aspect, but i never read anything from him so I don't really know.

Character progress was terrible, Joshua is more 2d than ever, Sally went full trans-earth feminist without real reason and the irish friend is a walking sterotype (they even try something "meta" callig him a professional irishman), the few good ones: the trolls, the goblins, Lobsang and Nelson ( that are clearly prathett ideas) are glimpse of a good book shoved in back to make space for the 2d main cast.

Shit overall, I can only hope it's Baxter fault and Pratchett (and his ghostwriter) isn't that bad already.

I don't really care which, as long as it's well written.
