Gundam Unicorn is freaking terrible.
Because the plot is EXACTLY THE SAME as every other UC gundam show. Unicorn is just a rehash of Char's Counterattack spread over 7 episodes. and CCA was probably one of the worst things to come out of the timeline, and that's saying a lot.
Space-Nazi remnant group #977594955739875 fight the still-corrupt Federation (you'd figure with all the changes of the guard people on Earth would actually elect someone that's competent.) Though, another big problem is most of the characters in Unicorn aren't even interesting at all. Banagher is just basically Kamille 2.0 (which means he's just as unlikable.) Full Frontal basically has no personality because he's a literal close of Char to pander to the base, and the other characters like Minerva are forgettable at best.
Gundam AGE was still bad but at least it had potential because it tried some different things. (they ruined that later but you get the point.) AGE had better characters, too. (Arisa, Asemu, Zeheart before he became stupid, Decil, and Flit, were all vastly more interesting than Unicorn characters)

I didn't want to make a big deal out of this because I tend to make elaborate speeches, but I do feel I should make a formal post:
Now, more than ever in the past, has Encodergasm become something of a burden to me, rather than a pleasure. Because I have a terrible reputation for going back on my word, all I can say is that whatever I end up doing, is what's getting done. There will be no "plans" or commitments to future projects. I am canceling Cowboy Bebop's BD release, as there are plenty of other (arguably better) releases coming out, and I am simply not going to pursue 08th MS Team, contrary to my every intention just two months ago.
EG was never about covering every show, or encoding something just for the sake of encoding. It has literally been an educational hobby of mine for 7 years now (Jesus Christ...), and I have always been happy to share the results with you guys. Needless to say, adult responsibilities call, and my time is better spent elsewhere. /m/ has its fair share of shitposting, but the support, input, and gratitude of so many of you has kept a kind of "tough love" through nearly every release. It's been fun, guys.

Hey /m/ I have a couple of mechanical questions about gundam. Specifically some off things.
Like how the Gundam used up the energy with the beam rifle among things. After many shots the gundam seems to run out of energy. Later on in the series it is never brought up and Amuro fights his way through A boa qu, that's a hella a lot of shooting but he doesn't run out of energy. As well as the generator output. It's stated the Gundam has five times more energy than a normal Zaku, yet it's power reactor rates 1380 kW while a zaku II's rates 951 kW. What gives is there some different energy capacity or something?
My other question has to do with the mechanical strength of the Mobile Suits. In Zeta there seems to be a lot of close quarters combat and grappling with Mobile suits. They all seem equal in grappling, even old Hizacks grapple with the Zeta and seem to be equal strength. I thought some mobile suits were better in every way but they still somehow get grappled? This is different as opposed to the Unicorn which can actually tear mobile suits apart. Is the grappling or strength of the Mobile suit determined by it's mechanical joints or its generator. If it is based of its generator how come the Unicorn's generators is only about 3500 kW? That doesn't seem like much an improvement for over ten years. Or am I missing some understanding that generator output =/=equal power, energy, speed, strength?

Is this what you call a Gainax end? I'm not really sure what just happened. Does anyone know?
Though I was already having trouble keeping up with things since episode 4. I'm not sure if I'm to blame that on the anime or myself, but I think I'll have to rewatch this some time later. Oh well, the last scene was astonishingly good at least. And I think I might get hated for this but overall I enjoyed Diebuster more than Gunbuster. Gunbuster just felt really melodramatic and amateurish at points in its writing and characterization SMITHUUU~, like you could tell it wasn't the work of someone with a lot of experience. Furthermore, FLCL is one of my favorite series and I really enjoyed how similar in style Diebuster was to it, at least in the first few episodes. Even having said that though, neither Gunbuster or Diebuster lived up to all the hype I've seen surrounding them. I feel like at best I can't really say more than "they were good". The only things about them that were actually great were the endings, which really moved me, but still that's not enough to make up for everything else. So in the end, didn't hate them, didn't really love them either, apart from the closing scenes.
Also, why the hell was there a bag with a 12 000 year old uniform inside Lal'C's buster? Just some fanservice for Gunbuster fans? AND WHY SACRIFICE EARTH OF ALL PLANETS?
And what does /m/ think of these shows? Overrated shit? Or am I the one with shit taste?
