For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

No, like all modern gundam kits, it is extremely difficult. It will require glueing, painting, and several of the parts will need to be scratchbuilt to the specifications in the instructions using the included sheets of plate and tub of putty. Then when all is said and done if you want it to be articulated you will need to buy the sold separately joint system and mod them into the design itself. And in the end it will certainly not look anything like what on the box, the instructions, or the numerous pictures of the completed product online. I mean, who would put a picture of the included product on the box itself? That would just be silly.

I would like to find them on amazon since its cheaper for someone in the U.S to get from there if you have prime. Though gundam planet is a possibility too. Its a brand by Kotobukiya. Its the same concept as Master Grade gundam kits: skelenton center, but you add armor and mods to make it a full thing. The neat thing about Frames is that you can easily kitbash them and mix shit like Zenrai and Magatsuchi to make a weird custom mech. It's fairly interesting,

As >>11234993 said, they're original designs from Kotobukiya.

There is some backstory and for awhile Koto had a manga up online (in Japanese) to read. It was pretty light stuff, and more just "fanservice" than actual story. Showing the mechs off in cool poses and whatnot.

Was never translated or released in English to my knowledge.

You can read some of the material online, just google Frame Arms Blog.

They had a story that ran back in the 80s in one of the Hobby Mags, and do to interest a small Japanese model company (can't remember the name) picked up the license and did a short run of models for the ~5years it was running in the magazine.
Sort of a troubled history though, as there was a rights dispute as to who owned what. Originally the series was called SF3D. Like wise, they did do a 30-ish minute short with miniatures back in the late 80's as an OVA for the line.
Not sure if it's up online anywhere as it's pretty niche and had most of it's story told visually. Now it's Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000 (Maschinen Krieger or Ma.K for short.) to help alleviate the drama.

Right now WAVE & Hasegawa do kits for the line. WAVEs first kit is coming out in October this year, the Panzer Spahwagen.

They're all glue together, need paint kits. Come with some waterslides but not much and very Military Model influenced in scale & design.
You'll find most stuff being 1/20 or 1/35 scale.

>>11235029
Frame Arms look fine out of box, but some paint apps do help. They give you the option of using waterslides instead of painting.

They do require some glue though, as the frame's don't hold together all that well unpainted. Very loose fittings on some pegs.

>>11235028
Yep. The frames also work with some other Koto lines like Broken Blade & Border Break.

>>11235042
Think a tall HG (like Unicorn Destroy mode) or a short HG (like a Wing EW, Victory, F91, or Crossbone kit.)

Due to the size of included weapons, they scale better with the MGs in my opinion but it could go either way.

I didn't go with that approch, but I imagine it's easy for the lines and harder for the emblems.

For cutters, I just use a small flush cutter I believe, it was supposed to be used for jewelry. It works.

DIY solutions will come in ten bucks cheaper. You can use those additional bucks to get a box that's both a larger and comes with some lights. Though that calculation's based on you having somebody in your immediate neighbourhood who has both the tools and the knowledge to perform the necessary electric installations for you.

Actually reposing kits out of my oh-so-favourite standard S-shaped poses NOT for a photoshoot. Big deal, I know. Re-posed Exia fine for once, but when I did the RX-78-2, it literally exploded.

>shoulder armour falls off as usual
>bends to pick it back up, and another shoulder piece falls off
>bends to pick that back up, now skirt armour falls off
>bends to pick it back up, literally gently roll beam sabre off hand to put beam rifle in, thumb falls off
>bends to pick it back up, rear skirt armour falls off

Now I remember why I always leave my kits in safe&cool stand-by poses. A new cool-white light bulb arrives tomorrow, so hopefully I can take a few good pics.

It is shit, a literal waste of money.

3 cubic meters/min = 105 CFM

Depending on what you're going to spray and how long your ductwork is you need 300 to 600CFM for proper extraction

Furthermore it has no airstream capture to speak of because there is no "box" inside which you can put both your model and your airbrush completely. The semi-open enclosure will cause the spray to blow right back inside your room.

Ready-made spraybooths that have both the necessary CFM rating and enclosure cost $400+, but you can build something similar yourself for $150-200 if you're reasonably handy.

Think about it this way, it's a big investment, but even getting into gunpla requires a pretty hefty investment in terms of paint, brushes, cutters, xacto knives, whatever. You're dropping like fifty bucks or so before you even buy your first gunpla if you plan to be serious.

Airbrushing is the next step, it's a bigger investment, but you only have to buy the shit once and it will greatly help you step your game up.

I don't airbrush just because I don't feel the need to, but if you want to it's not this huge wall you make it out to be.

Doing a diy, going to use the box it comes in as the...box. Does it seem too small or would it be enough? I am not exactly sure about the fan but it seems to be able to draw out enough air.

I should just try spraying something first right?

And any suggestions to connect the too small piping to the exhaust? I spray near the window so the pipe is going for only 50cm. Current thought is massive amount of tape.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The number one factor for a kits price is not popularity, it's the number of runners/parts it has. The lower the part count and number of runners, the cheaper it will be. Crossbone and X are also not very big MS to start with.

Yeah, no

You need to put a filter in front of your fan unless you want to change fans often

Fiberglass furnace filters work well.

As for your fan being enough or not:

Turn your fan on. Take a (small) piece of newspaper. Set it on fire. Move the burning piece inside your booth (without it catching fire too). Blow out the fire. Leave the half-burned paper inside the booth. Can you smell the smoke without having to stick your face inside the booth? If you can, change the fan to higher CFM until you can't.

Anyone who paints with a fume hood will tell you that the entire hood eventually becomes dusty from paint particles and not just the area where the vent is.

Your room will become dusty 3 times faster.

You mean a new version of the hg or MG? I really don't see it happening. Bandai has never done a HGUC 2.0 before and as for the MG if they were going to give it a 2.0 then they would have given it one back when the MK II and Zeta got 2.0s (Instead it got a ballute system repackaged with the old runners release).

We have the new HGCE Aile Strike and HG G30 RX-78-2. I don't think it could happen to Hyaku Shiki though.

Yes they have. Besides the G30 versions of the RX-78-2, the ZZ has gotten a newer HGUC (possibly because Bandai decided that it wouldn't get an eventual RG release instead).

The Hyaku Shiki MG is pretty good, it's undergated so the nubs aren't visible at all on the gold parts except in a few areas like the inside of the forearms. My only complaint really is the leg articulation, I figure if it were made today it could do the splits.

HGCE was an entirely seperate line from the old seed line.

And the G30th is not an HG either. It was a line made specifically for the 30th anniversary and was based on the 1:1 gundam statue.

And no, ZZ has not gotten an updated HGUC. There is only a single HGUC ZZ kit.

And as stated, there is only a single HGUC ZZ kit and the g30th version is a separate HG line from the HGUC.

Only two of the funnels are detachable and articulated, the other four are static and are supposed to always be attached.

Besides that though, it seems to be a great kit. I have one in my backlog.

There's only one HGUC ZZ kit, and it came out a full month before the first RG did. I think you may be thinking of the older HG ZZ that came out before the HGUC line was a thing.

HGUC I mean. It's obviously an HG kit, just not part of that specific line.

A bit expensive stateside for what they are, but if you can get them at a good price (about $10-12 USD) then they're good cutters for the price.

Otherwise, I'd recommend Xuron 410Ts instead. You can pick them up for ~$10-11 on Amazon and they'll do a great job for the price.

Be fair warned that the Xuron's are not "flush" cutters as the blades are offset as to not stress the plastic as much.
So you'll have a little bit extra cleanup work to do with your hobby knife versus cutters where the blades go flush against one another.

Owning those, as well as God Hands I can still say they do the job well. Just be mindful of your work and don't rush it as you'll make more mistakes with the knife than any pair of nippers most of the time.

You can scour Taobao for chinese copies, or search on Mandarake for dented box versions.

Also check HLJ, AmiAmi, & Hobby Search just to make sure they don't have that issue of Hobby Japan in stock.

If you want it in 1/100 scale, you can pick up the BTF Version on Ebay for ~$30.
It's not an upscaled copy though, it's a new kit designed to look like that sword.

BTF stuff is actually very nice in terms of quality & design. Still not Bandai, but it's among the best that chinese factories can offer.

Get those ones. I have a pair and it's the bees knees. Very sharp and very clean cuts that are flush. They are also very easy to handle and see through.
