I was wondering if there are any guides on scratch building joints for older kits

>>
Anonymous 2014-09-15 18:54:55 No.11374584
I did post a thread regarding this, but a kind anon pointed me in this direction:

So. Im getting some money this week and Im thinking of getting my second-ever-MG kit. My question to /m/ is, which one should I get? my budget is £80 GBP (including Delivery) so im looking to shop from within the uk. So far the kits that Appeal to me are the hi-nu ver Ka, the Titans Mk II (my first mg was the AEUG version) or the Unicorn RX 0. Though Having just seen a video on the tube of you, im also concidering the RE-100 Nightingale. Im looking for something that I'll enjoy building but isn't going to take me five minutes. the longer the build time the better.

So /m/ any recommendations?

>>11374584

Well of the three I'd normally recommend the Titans Mk II, but since you've already made the AEUG version, it seems a bit silly to suggest it. I'd guess of the other two, I'd say go for the Hi-Nu. If only because it gets a stand.

Your main problem is wanting to buy stuff directly from the UK, which means you're automatically going to pay twice the price for stuff that you would normally.

As for the Nightingale, I think it's probably a bit too simple, especially if you want a kit that will take a long time.

So I've heard tell that the old 1/144 Bawoo isn't especially flexible in through the torso area. What would be some good ways of addressing this, while I'm already adding things, or is it not really that big an issue?

It's torso is a rod in it's ass that plugs into its throat. Absolutely no room for movement outside of completely re-engineering it.

Could be done. Reduce the size of the rod to loosen the tolerances, then relieve some space for a ball and socket polycap joint, maybe?

you could just cut it in half and put a joint in the middle, but if my kit is anything to go by, it wouldn't stand a chance of ever staying upright.

Though loose joints might just be my kit showing its age.

It really is a nice looking model, regardless of how poseable it is.

>>
Anonymous 2014-09-15 20:16:31 No.11374886
>>11374833
They are not loose or broken but the kit is from 1991 so the articulation isnt really great. I want to touch up the kid and give it some more modern attributes. I already scribed some extra panel lines, printed a set of water slide decals, replaced the static power pipes with flexible on metallic ones and changed the the shot lancer for with the one for the X-2 CBG. So the joints are pretty much the only problem for me. Some other Anon said that the parts fitted pretty good onto the inner frame of the MG F91 but i dont want to sacrifce mine nor do i want to buy a second one just for the frame.

This is definitely true, and the transforming mechanism just seems so much cooler than the rest of the Z/ZZ designs. With some modification, you could probably even get a Zeta-Plus to do something similar. I just find it easier to modify something that already exists rather than re-engineering it.

Also, the Bawoo is cool as balls.

>>11374867
I did mean the HGUC. It's still not GREAT through the torso, though really at that age nothing is.

I have an old Acguy from '82 I have sitting, ready to build, and I'm looking to do it as a diorama.

I'm planning on building it with some rather heavy battle damage (demolished arm, badly punctured propulsion pack,) paint it up as if it had been sitting underwater for a couple decades, and (here's the part I'm still trying to figure out,) place it in a glass container of some sort, and pour a material of *some sort* over it so simulate it being underwater.

Anybody have any idea what I could use for the water?

I dunno. I'm 99% sure this image is in reference to his "Silver Cliff" which really isn't that ugly.

As far as the Astray Frame, looks to be left arm but the box art shows both so I dunno. Dalong it.

I can't understand how you build up such a massive backlog anyway, learn some basic self-control with your money and stop buying more kits than you can keep up with.
