How can I produce like Death Grips? Or just Flatlander, I guess. Specifically the Money Store. I love those grinding synths and the way they sample, but there's also just this cold, almost metallic atmosphere that I get from it. I'm not sure what it is exactly that gives it that but it's what really makes the album special for me. So yeah, I don't want to try and totally copy DG or anything in my production, but I want to mess around and see if I can incorporate a little of their techniques into my stuff.

Can we have a Noise Rock thread? I'm discovering this genre and i think i like it but there is an insane variety out there: psychedelic, experimental, post-harcorish, punky, mathy, avant-garde, 2deep4u stuff and other shit. What i've liked: Polvo, Melt Banana, Unwound, Lightning Bolt (current favorite), Drive Like Jehu (another favorite), Ruins and obviously Sonic Youth. Discuss, rec some stuff and share if you want.

music production

I recently got ableton and I'm still learning the ropes. I've never used a program like this before. (it does seem pretty intuitive so far though) I've been doing some tutorials and watching videos of course, but I'd like to start practicing making some real music. I know what I REALLY want to do, but I don't want to taint my vision so to speak with my lack of familiarity and equipment. So what I'm looking for is a simple genre I can just fuck around with. It can be dead or active, it doesn't matter to me. My plan is to listen to everything possible within it to really get a feel what other artists are doing and then take all that knowledge and put it in my own work. Any suggestions? also music production thread

My iPod Nano just broke and I've decided that I'm not gonna buy another Apple product. What's a good MP3 player? Is there a chart about this? Pic related, is that any good?
