Typical Patrician Musical Development

Typical Patrician Musical Development Stage 1: You are too young to truly think independently. You are biologically programmed to try and fit in, to absord your environment. You listen to what your peers listen to, either in the form of poppy radio music, or that of a slightly more niche social group. You can't really articulate why you like something, except that it's "just cool." Stage 2: The Awakening. Through some chance, you come across a great piece of music you've never heard before, and it really resonates for you. Maybe you grabbed Abbey Road from your parents CD collection. Maybe you heard your big brother listening to Paranoid Android by Radiohead. Who knows. But your eyes are finally opened to the whole world of interesting music out there, just waiting to be explored. You begin your musical journey. Stage 3: You likely get entrenched in a niche, digging deep into it. You like a genre, maybe classic rock, maybe punk, maybe classical or hip hop. It helps to define who you are, helps to provide a direction in the overwhelmingly large music world. Maybe you grow territorial and start to look down on other genres. Either way, you have managed to find the music you enjoy, independent of whether or not your peers like it, or have even heard of it.

Jay Z takes already pretentious hipster culture and mixes it with the typical trash hip hop that he produces and the disaster that is modern art and people actually lap this shit up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMG2oNqBy-Y

Let's talk; Punk rock

Yo mew, Got my Rations "Martyrs and Prisoners" 7" today. I ordered it from 86'd Records in Long Island, got my package today. Came with a handwritten note saying "Hey Anon, thanks for the order, keep toilin!" A free "Lost Cat" sticker. A cloth Rations patch that says "Rotting trees nourish soil." An additional CD called "Celebrity Internment Camp." It's described as a "conceptual narrative in 36 parts." It's kind of like really lo-fi instrumental hip-hop with occasional vocal sample over it. Kind of a similar vibe to the soundtrack of "Samurai Champloo." CD also has a neat little comic that goes along with it. All of this for $9.00 including shipping! Fucking neat little DIY punk label, I'd say. http://rationsband.bandcamp.com/album/martyrs-and-prisoners-7 http://www.86drec.com/ http://86drec.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-cd For those of you with bands, consider contacting them about getting your physicals distributed! So /mu/, let's talk punk rock!
