So I first posted on /r but they said go to /n So here I am. Hee, I'm a noob that want to start with mountainbiking. I heard from friends it's best to start with a hardtail and it doesn't matter 26 or 29'er. My budget is between 400-600dollar. Do you know a good one for that price? Or know why i should take a full susp crossroad or not,... Please tell; Ps: it is not for on the streets, only for in the woods. And not

derp a doop dope

Where do you even go to ride a bicycle? Concrete blandness surrounds me for miles. None of my friends enjoy cycling, "why ride when you have a car?" Cause they already dumped a fortune on their metal heaps and can't have it any other way now. Riding alone quickly becomes tedious and boring, especially if your destination is a park or shoreline because there's nothing to do by yourself. I usually ride to the beach but end up standing there idly. After about ten minutes of that I reckon I hit the ole' dusty trail right back home. tl;dr: how do make cycling fun?

Where do you draw the line between "slicks" and "knobbies", and is their an in between? >inb4 >>>/bqg/ I'm not trying to get a single straight answer, I want to know how you guys personally see this issue and discuss it. What would you consider something like Randonneurs or Town Rides? They are textured, but not nearly enough so to be called knobbies imo. What about something more textured but still not particularly knobby like Marathon Mondials? In my opinion only textureless road tires qualify as slicks, and a tire has to be significantly textured (i.e. a fair bit moreso than Marathon Mondials) to be called knobbies. The in betweens I just refer to as textured but there's probably a better (maybe even "correct"?) term for them.

/n/ I just bought an entry level mountain bike for mountain biking pic related. Bought off craigslist, I know it's shit but I want to know HOW shit it is. Bike is a Schwinn Moab, Frame is 7005 Aluminum. It's pretty light which is why i ended up buying it. >inb4 buy more bike In this fucking city I buy what I can afford to have stolen

Do you listen to music when you pedal /n/? If so what do you listen to? I like to listen to super eurobeat because I want to pretend I'm in Initial D but with bikes.

Let's say I'm in a real bind time-wise and my headset bearings need lubing up. Is there any problem using vaseline? I mean I wouldn't use it for cranks or anything because it melts at such a low temperature but I should be fine in the headset, right?

Sup /n/ I've had to true wheels in the past etc but this happened today in a fast descent. > hit front brakes > hear a loud BONK noise > can't use front brake efficiently anymore, it bumps on the wheel So I get home, check my wheel, and the rim is mostly okay - but one side of the wheel has two or three of these cave-in's (pic related), also altering the the braking surface. Any experience with this?

I know most of this community doesn't enjoy fixies, and especially trendy fixie brands like critical, pure fix, vilano, etc. with the colorful wheels and gimmicky shit, but I said fuck it and bought one anyways, and I have had a lot of fun with it, dare i say more than my cyclocross bike (forgive me). But one other thing that this community has taught me is to not give a fuck what anyone else thinks as long as you are enjoying yourself. I am using this bike as a base to improve on anyways, I am going to upgrade as I go, but one of the bigger reasons I went with pure fix is because they have pretty damned good customer service and are always improving on their hardware.

Driver jailed for strangling cyclist

Cagers at it again >Daniel Watkiss, 30, was driving in Stoke Newington in East London last July when he attempted to overtake James Falle, who was cycling. >Mr Falle signalled for him to pass and accidentally touched his wing mirror, causing Watkiss to stop suddenly in front of the cyclist. >He demanded £50 for payment for the damage, later found by the judge not to exist, and when the Mr Falle refused, Watkiss began strangling him by his helmet straps and going through his pockets looking for money. >“The next thing I knew he had grabbed my helmet and pulled me across my bike and into the road,” the Daily Mail reported Mr Falle as saying in court. “The strap on my helmet was strangling me; I couldn't breathe at this stage. I was trying to undo the helmet with one hand, but that was impossible while I was still being dragged forward.” >Watkiss then hit him on the face and neck before driving off leaving Mr Falle in the road with bloody knees, cuts and bruises. http://road.cc/content/news/126217-driver-jailed-18-months-vicious-strangling-attack-cyclist-who-caused-imaginary pic unrelated

I am sick and tired of my 700x23 tires going through tubes weekly. I want to switch over to 700x28 Kendra Karvs. Has anyone here used them? If so what did you think of them? Can they handle shitty city streets full of gravel and sticks?

How do I make riding less painful?

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
To start off I like to say that I own a shit bso (gmc denali road bike). Recently I find that I often get pain when riding, lower back pain and pain on my sit bones. I have raised the saddle to the correct height for me. But after a while of riding I still get pain in my lower back. As for the pain in my sit bones I am not sure if it is from the saddle. So how do I make riding less painful for my body?

Do you use words like 'cager' and 'Fred'? These words are hate-speech. They're no better than using words like 'nigger', or 'queer', or 'faggot', or 'kike'. Stop using these words.

Is frame rust like this repairable? I found this vintage peugeot road bike for 30 bucks and I want the frame to use for a commuter, but is it even salvageable? It's got some interesting Mafac brakes and stuff as well.

What is /n/'s opinion of Continental Gatorskin tires, and are there equivalents I should know about? im in the market for some new tires, i live in a industrial part of los angeles county where there is alot of debris on the road, broken glass, bits of steel, broken asphalt and concrete from heavy traffic, and the occasional thorn. I currently am using the WTB Alterrainasaurus 26x1.6 that came on the bike, they are pretty tough but i will go through tubes every month or so, and im using my bike as my commuter so i cant afford to be late because of a flat.
