/BQG/ - Bike Questions General Kill Me edition Last throd: >>798322 I've got 19mm rims on my cross bike right now which I understand will support tires up to 44mm wide. Currently I have 35mm tires on there... what are the advantages/disadvantages of putting wider tires on there, up to the maximum?

Is it possible to become a bike messenger without inevitably turning into the stereotype? I unintentionally sat next next to a group of messengers today and it turned into a conversation where I got a job offer. I stand to potentially make more money than my current job doing something I actually enjoy, and the idea of a community is cool, but almost all of them were the "gauges, tattoo sleeve, cycling cap" kind of person.

Fun fact: The real reason that certain people prefer to ride fixed gear bicycles is that they are immune to most of the damage which might result from falling while drunk-off-your-ass.

When was the Golden Age of railroads in America? I would go with the mid-1960s to early 1970s. >around 75 Class I railroads, all with interesting and unique paint schemes >wide variety of motive power by a variety of manufacturers >wide variety of freight shipments and industrial operations to observe >passenger service still decent >most railroads still profitable >around 200,000 miles of track in operation >still a decent amount of employment What do you think?

The Big U.S. Airline Brawl

Let's say down the road, all major airlines in the U.S. have merged. Who would have taken over who and which brand will be the surviving one? The list is: >American (In the process of asking over USAirways) >United >Delta >Southwest >Virgin America >Alaska >Hawaiian >Spirit >Frontier >JetBlue >SkyWest (is technically a major U.S. Airline)

Why haven't you spandex-wearing pretentious hipster upright cyclists invested in a railbike yet? >most efficient use of a bicycle >can climb hills easily >muh aero >looks badass >runs on rails like a train >you can easily construct one yourself from the bike you already own >comes in both recumbent and upright styles It's the best of both worlds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8WHnzkaZfw

hi gang How do I achieve a racier /long reach/lower position on an endurance bike frame? Is there any problem that may arise in making an endurance frame a racier feeling bike? Atm I can think of is losing spacers, tilting the handlebar down, longer stem. I've only ridden 2 bikes in my life and now I bought a new bike online and i want the racier feel of my other bike. pic unrelated

Airlines everywhere are looking for ways to cram more seats into their aircraft. Ryanair is actually, seriously planning on implementing standing-room flights. What's your opinion, /n/?

What's your favorite/least favorite type of bike?

>painful for my crooked back >leaning forward at an extreme angle makes my stomach feel weird >feel every fucking bump >always have to change gears when going uphill instead of just standing on the pedals >have shitty bike pump that barely inflates past 80 psi, not enough for skinny tires >I go slower than on my mountain bike >constantly running over broken glass and shit, worrying if tires will get punctured >can't ride through mud Do other anons hate road bikes or am I just a gigantic pussy? My everyday mountain bike is super comfortable and fairly fast on paved roads. I think living in a rough part of town makes it less pleasant to ride as well. What is the best type of bike for average people? I would say the mountain bike for those who spend less money, and for those who spend a bit more the hybrid/city type bike. I would rather ride any cheap Walmart roadmaster mountain bike than another road bike. I also have a Walmart single speed cruiser, I don't ride it much any more, but I went 30 miles on it once without too many problems (it was kind of creaky coming back into town).

Train? Bus? Taxi? Shared shuttle?
