What would Boston be like if it had kept its streetcars? Would this have rendered The Big Dig unnecessary? Would maintaining the streetcar network have cost as much as, less than, or more than The Big Dig?

Hey /n/ A few years ago i remember reading a story on reddit(*tips fedora*) about a guy who walked across the United States. The username was 'LoneWolf' or something of the likes and the story includes stuff about riding in trains, sleeping in abandoned buildings, and getting chased by thugs. This may not be the right place to ask but I know im not the only one who has read this guys incredible story and was hoping someone here could help me dig it up

h-hey /n/ so I was out cycling today for the first time since fall, and when I was riding a lot of cars where like double short honking at me, like "toot-toot" kinda style. When i got back I checked my bike and everything was fine, my bag was securely shut, I wasn't cycling in the middle of the road, etc. I can't think of any reason why drivers would do that, especially cause I never see it happen to other drivers. The one reason I thought of was that they were warning me of their approach, but a few cars on the other side of the road tooted too. what is going on here pls help

Daily reminder that Shimano cagers hit cyclists and you should ride SRAM or Campy instead.

What do you guys think of Sheldon Brown? Do you think Sheldon and Whitney would make a good couple if Sheldon was still alive and they were close in age?

How feasible is a life goal of owning and learning to fly a seaplane? I have always loved them, especially the Catalina. It has been my dream to own a small seaplane (pic related) that is pretty old, hopefully pre-ww2. Ontario's lakes is where I would hope to dock/fly it. Anyone have advice on seaplanes?

>stacking 11s on a hub width initially designed around 6-7 gears >stopping the 26" despite the market demands and forcibly replacing it with 650b to sell new frames >putting disc brakes on road bikes and telling there is no difference in aero >putting the easy brakable 11s chain on a 7s DH rig groupset >new axle and hub "standards" every 2 months freds and neo-yuppies are responsible for these weird trends since they are the main consumer

>The US Secretary of State John Kerry has broken his leg in a biking accident in the French Alps. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-32950173 Bicycles are clearly a Russian ploy to take over the west. Why do you support Putin, /n/?

So here's this (anecdotal) correlation I've discovered: None of the people I know that use a bicycle as their primary mode of transportation have seen a UFO or been abducted. None. On the other hand, if you take a look at the Betty & Barney Hill report, Lonnie Zamora incident, etc, you'll see that all of them were driving cars. So does anyone else here think that cycling protects from aliens?

Brakes

V-Brakes are the best brakes. V-Brakes are better than disc brakes. V-Brakes are at the rim which gives them an advantage of leverage vs. disc brakes. V-Brakes have plenty of modulation. V-Brakes let you lock the wheels up when you feel like it. V-Brakes are the easiest to set up. V-Brakes are best brakes. Disc brakes are located in a disadvantageous location for leverage. Discs can bend and wobble. Discs require more cable length and routing. Discs are a marketing gimmick and ploy. Cantilevers are hard to set up. Cantilevers are lacking good modularity. Cantilevers are only useful on cyclocross where other options are limited. V-Brakes are the most powerful and therefore give you the most control. V-Brakes are best brakes.
