Guis, what does it mean when a 50 mile ride feels like nothing? Should I start hitting up 100 miles or what? I can't up the intensity because fucking flats as far as the eye can see. Fuck west texas.

Commuting General

How far each way is your commute? What kind of bike do you ride? Are you prepared for winter? Couple of videos also to discuss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNzTeEzciec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atuPowJ6_Q4

Public transport tourism

Recently I went to the best city in the world, Karlsruhe. I went purely because of its reputation as a public transport powerhouse, having now gone I can say it is a reputation that is well deserved. The city also has a number of bars and restaurants of good quality, and cheap prices. And at least whilst I was there, had a number of public entertainment events and activities to do. Anyone else travel to a city/country purely for its public transport reputation?

This is a great writeup of why wider tires of the same brand and make are faster: http://bicycles.stackexchange.com/a/10513 More on the benefit of wider tires: https://janheine.wordpress.com/2012/06/13/bicycle-quarterly-performance-of-tires/

Question: If the Docklands Light Railway is Driverless, why do the trains have Windscreen Wipers?

Railroads threaten shutdown over automated trains

http://thehill.com/policy/transportation/254260-railroads-threaten-shutdown-over-automated-trains Why are Class I railroads such babies? They had nearly half a decade to install PTC and none of them have done a damn thing to comply with the order. I can't believe railroads are able to hold America hostage over having to comply with US law. What is this the 1870s? The sad thing is they'll get their way and the government will bend over backwards for them.

Daily reminder that steel is real. There is literally no reason to use carbon outside of racing and there is literally no reason to use aluminum other than for poorfag-tier full suspension bikes.

How do you feel about China Railways signing a deal to build high speed rail from Los Angeles to Las Vegas? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-09-17/china-u-s-reach-agreement-on-high-speed-rail-before-xi-visit The project will be funded by China Railways and other private investors and will not require public funding. The right-of-way has already been secured.

Bike recommendation.

Hi /n/, I am thinking of buying this thing : http://vanmoof.com/t-series/21-t-black.html Going to be using it for dayli commute. Am I goint to hate the fact that it only has 2 gears? Elevation on route is something like +50-30 meters over a 7km route. I am also 30kg over the weight limit of the bike, but that is true for almost any bike I can find. Any alternatives I should consider? I would like something with the "dutch" riding position. Must be as low maintenance as possible and I would love to have integrated lights. I think I would prefer small wheels (like 20"), but I have very limitid excperience with them. Thx for any advice you may have for me :)

https://vimeo.com/138479337 It's 2015 and you still aren't riding fixed. Why is it more important that people don't label you a hipster than you getting to enjoy the purest form of cycling?
