Unducted Turbofan/Propfan

Discussion about the engine idea that was way ahead of its time. Now that we see a future need for lower fuel consumption, is the idea of bringing the propfan back on the table? IIRC the only con was the cabin noise, but that can easily be fixed a la the Q400.

>makes Trek >makes Pinarello >makes Bianchi >makes pretty much everything >also makes its own carbon fibre >Best road frame on the market is the TCR Advanced SL0 You can pay more money, but you ain't getting a better frame. Just a different paintjob. >Best endurance frame on the market is the Defy Advanced SL0 Just as race bred as the TCR, only difference is 1cm higher headtube, 1cm in on the reach. Whereas the Synapse and Roubaix are 100% geriatric fred bikes >Best aero frame on the market is the Propel Advanced SL0 Same geometry as the TCR but shaped to be aero. Giant wins again. >only problem is the paintjob

ALCO Thread

Old thread is gone but had a decent following, so let's have another! What sort of diesels do you think Alco would be putting out if they were around today? What if GE had decided not to end their partnership?

>look pedals fall apart >decide to upgrade to speedplays >working in bike bike shop >install pedals and cleats >can't get them to clip in, find out I screwed the cleat in too tight >loosen the cleat up >still can't get them in >ask the shop owner what's wrong >he has me sit on the bike and basically pushes really hard until they finally go in >realize I can't reliably get in or out on my own >decide to sit on the trainer while I practice getting in and out >shop owner is in the back and there are no customers to be found >sitting on the trainer with both shoes on >can't get either one to clip in, even with literally 100% of my weight (150 lbs/70 kg) on either pedal >no amount of twisting or wiggling changes that >have the great idea of dropping my weight onto one of the pedals from the 12 o'clock position >line up the cleat and drop my weight onto the left pedal >I fall to the left >the bike falls to the left, still in the trainer >the trainer falls to the left >finally clipped in >can't clip out >have to reach under the bike and take the shoe off so I can get free what's the deal with these shits? I was ultimately able to get clipped in a few times, but I can't do it consistently, and I literally can not clip out. I think they loosened up a bit, will they loosen up to a reasonable level? I literally can't go for a ride because I can't get in/out. are lighter riders (not that I'm particularly light, but most people I see with speedplays are 200+ lb freds) even able to use them or do I just have to return them?

Single speed conversion

Hey /n/ Need some help, I bought a Merida Big 7-20md a while back and the crankset is pic related. I took them off to clean them and saw the bottom bracket is Shimano and not Suntour. What do I need to do to do a single speed conversion? I can install parts fine but it's the compatibility I don't get. The crankset specifically is the SR XCC 42-34-24 CG. Can I just buy a new crankset w/ chainring or do i have to get a new bottom bracket aswell? If so what do you recommend.

If you think a magic foam hat will protect you if you get hit by a car, you are an idiot. There is literally no reason to wear a helmet. A helmet just acts as something to get snagged if you crash and will probably just get you more injured. And if you crash for any reason other than getting hit by a car you obviously don't know how to ride a bicycle and should use training wheels instead of a helmet. Prove to me that there is any legitimate reason to wear a magic foam hat. Protip: You can't.
