Mineral oil for hydraulic brakes

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Eh, I had some amateur error, when trying to fixate my disc brakes. I openend the oil Torx screw of the Shimano brake, and then pulled the brake. Oil flew out like when you have shits diarrhea. Anyways, now I lost a bit of oil in my rear brake system, and I notice it, I can pull the lever all the way back and it barely breaks. I found no clear results about what to use, because people keep on arguing anyways. Funny enough my bike doesn't use the original mineral oil, it's yellowish and not red. The distributor who put my bike together also thought it is not necessary it seems. What is your experience with different kind of oils for your disc brakes? Shimano doesn't give out any data about their stuff, so it's hard to compare only by specsheet.

Did anyone else know that KTM makes bicycles? Anyone have any experiences? Are they any good? That colorscheme is delicious though.

Helmet Hate Thread

ok I believe that helmets protect you from brain damage or whatever, but are you really going to look me straight in the eyes and tell me you as a full grown man wearing one, doesn't make you look like a total faggot? If not, just one of these days take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror with one on and come back to me.

1X drivetrain for a do-it-all bike? Is the 2X Sequoia Elite a better do-it-all bike than the more expensive (+$1500) Expert? The Expert still has a lower low gear than a typical compact crank road bike, but misses a bit out on top. The Elite goes even lower, and higher than the Expert, but not as high as a road bike. What do?

I'll be moving soon to NZ and would really love to do some mountain biking, but I broke my tail-bone a few years back and still can't sit on a bicycle seat for even 5 minutes without the pain being too much. Are there any modifications that could help? I've seen some seats with a small slit down the back but I don't think that would help much.

Use this thread for questions that don't deserve their own thread. Old Thread: >>992783 How fucked up would it be to buy cycling shorts at the thrift store, you would essentially be using used underwear. I have seen them at value village for like 5-8 bucks compared to retail 50-80$

I recently picked up an old Shwinn Mesa Runner for $60. Looks exactly like pic related but with a different seat and handles. It currently has non indexed thumb shifters and was looking to upgrade to more modern shifters. Its a 10 speed but modern 5 speed shifters are much more expensive than 7 speed ones. Is it possible to convert this to a 14 speed or should I just get new 10 speed shifters? Thanks guys.

BART technician's test

8 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I took the technician's test for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), was the hardest test I've ever took and even though I studied non-stop all week I got only a 40%. The test I took is specifically for communications. The fortunate part though was every other person in the class failed too, only 9 other people taking it. Some of these people looked like electronics engineers or managers in their 50's and 60's but still had a shit fit. I swear though, when it comes to the BART it's like the Harvard of the electrical technician's world. The people who pass then have to take another test showing their capabilities in actually troubleshooting 555 timer integrated fans. Then after that is an interview to see if they like you. Once all these phases are passed THEN they finally offer you a job. It was honestly a 250$ waste to get a plane ticket, eat and take the metro up there just to realize you failed it. How are the technician's tests for other cities? Any easier or worse?

I just copped a giant stance with this on it http://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/cranksets-mtb-2/comet-triple-423224t-m10-423222t-x10-crankset/ Is it possible to convert this to a single cog? As in are all 3 chainrings removable?
