I just got hired to work at a local bike repair and sale shop. I like working with tools but I'm not a turbo-nerd about bikes. What should I learn immediately?

I want to everest a local hill with a really cheap setup just for laughs. I was thinking I should get: -small MTB alu frame -steel fork -700c alu wheels -1x crankset -single speed because the gradient on the hill is constant -drop bars -front brake I'm trying to go as light as possible with the tightest budget, any recs?

transportation mixed with thoughts and facts of all sorts. >if someones is big, should it be easier for him to climb a mountain than for a smaller person? lets say you have a cyclist of X size. (not weight, or height but size). and then you have a clone of him thats exactly the same but 25% larger. despite the weight difference, the larger one should arrive first because under his perspective, the mountain is smaller. his relationship with the earth's size is different. am i right?an ant can go really fast for its size but if you make do a 1km road he will take longer than any normal human right? yes , gravity and wind affect both cyclists in a different way, but again , for the larger one the mountain is smaller. what happens with time? do smaller people feel time slower than big people? do bigger cyclists have an advantage? why do we have people like chavez, small but on top competition level? > a 787 rolls royce engine costs something in between 30-50 million usd. comment and post whatever you want. lets think and share thoughts and info. pic kinda related

/n/... I have owned by bike for 5 years and have never cleaned the chain once. I bought one of those chain cleaning tools along with some Simple Green degreaser (it's for the house but can use with chain) that will get here friday. I am so nervous for the results. I started biking "seriously" like, this summer, and I've probably ridden thousands of miles on this bike in the past 5 years without cleaning the chain once.

Post a rail-related building located where you live and a synopsis of it. It can be no longer service as long as it's preserved in such a way that it still looks like it was built for a railway. Pic related is the Tarpon Springs Depot in Tarpon Springs, Florida. It was built by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1909 to replace the city's original depot, which was built in 1888 (the year the track was built) and burned down in 1908. The last train operated on that line in 1987 and the right-of-way is now part of the Pinellas Trail for pedestrians and bikes.

What does /n/ think about freeway removals? I think it's great for cities and really makes everything better for everybody, even drivers. Interesting article on the issue: http://gizmodo.com/6-freeway-removals-that-changed-their-cities-forever-1548314937 Here, from my home town of Oslo. If you change from 2009 to 2014 you can see the difference in the same place in the span of 5 years, and as you can see it looks a lot better after the freeway was removed. ; https://www.google.no/maps/@59.9071335,10.759346,3a,75y,309.77h,84.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sAFCjt3K2e82p0TlJsZhlww!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=no
