When building a bike or generally buying bike parts. What parts do you think should ALWAYS be bought new? I'd never buy a used cog or chain personally.

How easy it to evade fares in other cities around the world? I live in New York where they use turnstiles which I thought was standard. But since I started traveling a bit, it seems most places just assume you pay and usually send out officers to make sure you did, and this is on rare occasions. LA so far seems to be the easiest, just walk on basically. In Hamburg the Metro requires the purchase of a ticket, but its like do you just hold on to it? Where do you authenticate it and shit?

Hey /n/ can you tell me if this bike is worth it? Since I have to buy a new seat, and because it's a single speed, I assume that 200 is a bit pricey, but I don't really know much about the value of what they replaced. http://austin.craigslist.org/bik/3608286946.html

/n/, I have a cold and can't bike today. This is the first time I've been sick in the last 3 years and it's awful having to drive around to get things done. How do you cope with sickness? I know there's going to be a lot of "hurr man the fuck up" but I just can't do that when I feel this shitty.

So, I'm fantasising at the moment about a tour across mainland Europe during the summer after this one, going from the Netherlands down to Northern Italy, skipping through a few countries on the way. What kind of preparation will I need, other than cycling a lot? What luggage will I need to tow? Will a cross bike suffice instead of a proper tourer? Will the fact that I have a police caution impede my progress? Anybody know a good blog of someone who's done something similar too?

I cant wait until the fixie trend is dead, retards and only retards ride them. Every argument I've ever heard that's pro fixie is just blind bullshit because fixie riders don't want to accept the truth: its a fad that is for retards trying to be 'retro' because they think its cool. Pic related: what fixie riders look like when they try to get on their bike/ taking off from stationary/ trying to get up hills/ trying to get on the brainless hipster bimbo they just picked up from the local special school

Is this bad?

Found this on one of my bikes and was wondering if it's bad or I'm just being paranoid? It looks like the weld where the support for the rear wheels meets the seatpost. It's just a small crack but it's an important support for the bike!

Lefty would make a great commuter for cities with lots of bad roads, curbs and whatnot.

Tourers of /n/, I've got a bit of a conundrum that I need to resolve. I have a 1975 Centurion Super LeMans that I've been fixing up for the last couple of months, it's pretty sweet. After much deliberation I've decided that it's best suited as a touring bike. The problem is that the bike doesn't have any brazed on fittings on the chainstays for a modern rack. Looking at the wear on the stays it obviously had a rack at some point but it has since been removed. I can't find any racks online or otherwise that have a clamp instead of eyelets. What do?

what does /n/ know about a bike company called Boulder? i picked up a used 10-speed a while ago and the only identifying marks on it is the actual word "Boulder" and a small picture of a snowy mountaintop. also, the frame is half orange and half white. it appears to have thicker tires than the average road bike....my stepdad says its from the late 70s/80s. i dont know much about bikes (obviously) but i was hoping yall could help me out.

For you autists out there who feel the need to fling shit at each other. All bikes are forms of transportation, same applies for any other form of transportation related threads. Live and let live, also, fuck off.

Up until recently, I've only ridden on Canadian VIA Rail trains, which have had power outlets and free Wi-fi for years. I figured it must have become some kind of standard, but then a few weeks ago I ride an Amtrak train in the States and I learn that only SOME of Amtrak's trains have Wi-fi, and limited, crappy Wi-fi at that. Step it up, America. ITT: Where you live and if your trains have Wi-fi. Other countries welcome.

Just found out 4chan had a "bike" section. Bought this last year. Paid $1000 for it.

Are all butterfly bars made the same, or are some made with different measurements? I'm thinking of upgrading to butterfly bars, but I'd like to know whether I need to consider sizing and fit due to variance in sizes or if they're all identical and that isn't a consideration.
