What's a good, durable wheelset that will hold heavy loads over rough roads without breaking or constantly going out of true? It needs to fit 700x35c tires and work with V-brakes. Weight is no object, and I'd like to only spend a couple hundred dollars at the most. Any ideas?

Hey I had a cyclocross race last Sunday that was extremely muddy. I got home washed up my bike and had to take a few parts off to clean them out. I got all the parts moving good enough except the bearing of my bottom bracket. I didnt want to screw with it to much until i got some tips on what to do. You can feel that the bearings are not very smooth and gunked up, I can tell there is some sort or dirt, and grit in there. When I spin the crank hard with my hand the pedals turn about 3-4 times and come to a halt. -What do I need to get to fix it? -When this happens are the bearing usually overhauled without being removed or is the whole bearing itself just replaced? -Special lube for bearings, or will medium grease (like used on hubs) work? -any other input appreciated!

afternoon ge/n/ts. I put up a craigslist add awhile ago trading my beginners classical guitar for a bike, since being on campus I need some wheels to get around. Now I myself am an avid cycler, but I don't know much about bikes and never visit this board. basically I need a hardy bike that can get me from point A to B and can take a little rough and tumble. someone replied to my ad offering a 21 speed mongoose XR-250 mountain bike. I've tried to look up some reviews on the internet but it looks like a pretty obscure model, all I got was that similar bikes of different models have problems with their derailleurs and tend to break a lot. is this a good deal? tl;dr what can you tell me about the 21 speed mongoose XR-250 mountain bike? worth it?

For those of you who have quick release tires, how do you go about locking everything up in public? I don't mind lugging my seat around but carrying my tires around isn't ideal and the lock i have doesn't reach front to back.

Just a random shitpost

So I decided to swap out the 3400 Sora brifters on my Bianchi Via Nirone 7 for 6500 Ultegra brifters (which meant that it was going to stay a 2x9 drive train), but shit quickly escalated out of control as I decided to go full retard and bling out my bitch in full 6500/7700 components. If I had actually thought this through, I could have just gone for a 10sp 105 component set, but nope: Sora shit was getting on my nerves, thumb shifters were pissing me off, the black & white Reparto Corse brakes were starting to look a bit garish, and to be honest, I'm pretty much trying to get rid of all the white parts on the bike that I can. I ordered some other parts off eBay and got some parts off associates connected to my LBS, and got to work. I only had enough time tonight to work on my rear derailleur before I realized that I only had two cable ends on me and no black cable housing to replace the current white cable housing that's been getting on my nerves for the past two months. Will do brakes and shifters tomorrow, but for today...rear derailleur. In my hands, old-assed Dura Ace 7700 9sp rear derailleur. On the bike, new-assed 3400 Sora 9sp rear derailleur.

school me on track racing. -What are the rules? -How long/laps do they do? -Is it a team sport? -What gears do riders usually use? -Crank length based on inseam or is there a standard? -Different categories for different builds? I literally know nothing other than the basic build of the bikes so feel free to add anything you feel I need to know.

Shit thread/stupid question

Just started biking. Got a really beat up Raleigh roadbike. I like it a lot, but I notice even crappier bikes are a lot faster than I am! I've been biking 10 miles almost everyday since February so I don't think it's an endurance thing. I'm thinking I'm using the wrong gear combo? Granted, I know NOTHING about gears and which gears are better for what. I mostly ride on flat road, with one or two mild up hills. What gear combo should I be using? I normally use the smallest on the front with the second smallest on the rear... it seems to be okay, but I've had clunky mountain bikes overtake me on the road so I'm thinking I must be doing something wrong. Help a newbie out! Thanks!

esoles custom foodbed for bontrager and specialized shoes

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: eSoles.jpg]
any comments on these ? my understanding is the esole footbed is modular and there are four possible arch supports and two possible metatarsal pads. a machine measures your feet and recommends which arch and metatarsal pad to attach to your esole. this system is much less expensive than taking a mold of your feet and having a custom footbed designed and manufactured.

Sup /n/ubians, I work at a bike shop and hence get deals on new bikes. I also live in Britainland, so i can also on top of this take advantage of the govt's 'bike to work' wage sacrifice scheme. Basically i can get 40 - 50% off retail on 2013 bikes, plus with b2w i can get an additional 20% off (tax saving) So - looking for a new commuter bike for around £500 (after initial discount but not tax saving) as i don't want to take too big a hit on my wages. So yeah can anyone think of anything i can't? Must have - Drops At least tiagra/veloce/any sram Pannier mounts Mudguard clearance No toe overlap (size is 56 so generally not a problem) Not crabon (crabon fork is ok tho) Manufacturers we deal with - Specialized, Focus, Cannondale, Giant, Dawes, Koga, Mekk, Whyte, Genesis, Surly, Wilier, Storck. Currently looking at Focus Mares AX 4.0 (pic related)

whats up guys? Can anyone help me with the value of my Fuji 2.0 ACR road bike? Pic related. Quick specs are carbon rear triangle, carbon fork. 105 brifters, front and rear derailleur. FSA Gossamar crankset with bb30 bottom bracket. The upgrades are 105 pedals, replaced the notorious creaky bb, and it now has Forte Titan wheels but I have the original Shimano R500's if those are better. link: http://2010.fujibikes.com/Road/Performance/Roubaix-ACR-2-0.aspx I'm just looking for a ball park so I dont get hosed when I sell it. I know its a Fuji so it isnt a top tier. CL doesnt have any by me. Thanks a lot guys!
