Can someone explain to me without the Sheldon-speak, exactly the different between friction and indexed shifting?
I know enough to tell the difference, with friction there's no 'click click'/you can get 'between' gears and have to feel for it, and with index, it's like the numbered stuff, why the difference and which do you think is better?

What's up, /n/?
What are your thoughts on Recumbents/ Cruzbikes, particularly the Silvio? I'm thinking about buying a frame and a few components to build one up. I currently ride a surly long haul tucker for commuting and touring, but hate dealing with groin numbness, wrist strain and lower back stiffness over long rides (8 hours a day or so on my touring days). I've tried many saddles from all the top brands (thank goodness for eBay, or else I'd have been out like over a grand in saddles by now). My current bike fit is fine, and I like my current saddle too, but I just love the look and aerodynamics of these Silvios. They just seem so elegantly/ergonomically designed.
Anyone have experience with this bike/high-end recumbents in general?
