Best way to lock a bike?

I'm going to be on my way to college soon and my transport method of choice is a bike! But I've been on the campus and I see evidence of stolen bikes sometimes. I searched up different ways of locking a bike up with a combo of Cable Lock and U-Lock but they all seemed faulty. The one with the U-lock going through the post, wheel, and bike frame and Cable-lock going through the U-lock and front wheel look nice and was the most recommended, but you could just cut through the Cable lock and steal the front wheel.. The picture above is a method I made up by mixing some ideas I saw, but I'm not sure if it's a good way to lock the bike. any suggestions?

Design Some Guy's Bike

Sup /n/, I'm gonna be graduating this year and my bike needs a new frame on it but everything else is perfectly fine for racing. my parents say I can pick the frame and we can take it to this one shop to get any paintjob I'd like on it. (we know the guy so it's free) Here's what I need on the design: >green and yellow/gold color scheme. If you want to throw in black and/or white in there then go ahead >University of Oregon logo or something of the sort Here's a blank frame (not the one i'm getting but something to work with) >pic related. the frame

Hey /n/, newbie biker here. Long story short, I've managed to detach the cushion part of the saddle from the metal struts that support it. I made a temporary fix by securing the rear of the cushion to the rear metal struts, but I'm unable to force the front of the cushion over the front metal strut. How do I put the cushion back on? Do I need a tool or clamp, do I just need a new saddle all together?

chris king hubs

I'm buying an old 26 mtb (pre-disk) and was offered a set of wheels with Chris King hubs with Mavic 819 rims. The wheels are old but judging from the rims have very little mileage on them. Are Chris King mtb hubs better than Mavic or Shimano? How do they compare with WTB ?

tubeless on old 26 v-brake bike

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: tubeless.jpg]
Bike is '98 Dean (titanium) 26" v-brake. The bearings in my Crossmax wheels are shot, and the ceramic is worn too. I'm looking at replacement (used) Crossmax wheels, limited to v-brake models. There are wheelsets with conventional and tubeless rims. I'm familiar with the tech advantages of tubeless (having used tubular tires on a road and cx bike) but concerned about durability and maintenance issues in the middle of a 20-mile solo night-time single track ride. With clinchers I carry one or two tubes, a tire patch kit, tire boot kit, and a small pump. *** If tubeless needs repair I still have to carry a tube and don't I need CO2 cartridges as well - or can a tubeless tire be inflates with a standard hand pump? *** *** Is tubeless best for racing, but not unsupported solo rides? ***

Peugeot Competition 550 or the infinite crusade

Hi /n/ I'm here because I need your wisdom about old bikes. Three months ago I bough an old Peugeot bike, model Competition 550, and I'm trying to id the origins of this bike but I can't find any information about it... Most of old peugeot models are registered in internet databases but this bike seems to be like a ghost. The original group is Campagnolo and the frame is made by Columbus, exactly Cromor. I have find some info about Cromor frames, they are not the best but they are not so bad. I would like to know the year this bike was built, if it's some kind of special edition (since I haven't seen so much out there) or just a piece of crap that doesn't worth a shit. Anyway it's my bike and I like it. Hope you can help me. Pic related, it's the same model but not my bike.

Hi, /n/. This is kind of silly, but do bike skills translate to car skills? I'm thinking situational awareness and getting a feel for the road, but what else? I'm a poorfag who rides a roadized cheap hardtail to work. I'll keep on doing that until I can finally afford a manual tranny car (~1 year). I barely know how to drive, but I'm getting better with the bike after some months of daily commuting.

Having a hard time deciding between these two bikes as an new road cyclist that will try racing next year. Basically it seems to come down to: Frames: 4130 vs 6061 Shifting: Friction vs Indexed They both have low level drivetrains. I'm concerned with frame stiffness, ease of maintenance, and overall bike performance. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/mirage_xi_steel.htm http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/windsor/wellington2_IX.htm

When installing new brake cables, can I unscrew the centering screws to reset the process? They've gotten screwed down in their life, and I'm not sure if putting on a new cable means I can pull them back out or if the screw gets messed up in the process and they won't work right.

"Nashbar Integrated Alloy Road Frame" So I Just ordered the nashbar road frame, I've been riding single speeds and fixed gears for the last 3 years and it's time to get serious. How should I go about choosing components? I wanted something like a shimano 105 group but I've found that other cranksets and components will work within the 105 "environment." How do I go about measuring compatibility between parts? My budget is low but I'm don't want to skimp on parts. I want something that will work for me without completely going broke. It seems like the biggest expenses are the wheelset and groupset. I wanted to get the Mavic aksium or Ksyrium wheelset. They seem like the best for the price and I lurvvvveee their ellipse track wheelset. I work as a messenger in Chicago and I put a lot of miles on my bicycle so I need durable parts that can take loving abuse. I probably put in about 150-250 or more miles a week. I've never measured but it's to the point where I eat and smoke while I ride. Pic related, kinda want my bicycle to look like that (btw I just ordered a fizik arione vs and I'm pretty fucking excited about it) tl;dr help pick road bike components for a messenger.

Evening /n/, how was your ride today? Worst part of XC biking is the bugs, only managed to get lost on the trails I was exploring once.

I don't know how to ride a bike. Anything wrong with my approach of getting a cheap mountain bike that I can crash at will and practising on a grassy field?

Hey /n/. It's me again. I spent the day drawing pic related. This is my first successful 3-point projection. I haven't named the aircraft yet, or selected an engine. The project was my personal homage to Burt Rutan. Maybe /n/'s imagination can fill in the blanks.
