Greetings from /o/. I'm poor as shit and can't afford a project car so I want to get back into biking instead. Lost interest in it after I got a car but I've been missing it. This is the first time I've ever actually had money to buy a bike I want and have previously only owned 1 speed BMX style bikes from Wal-Mart/Target. So basically, wut bike is gud?
5'9" 145 lbs want to use the bike for 60% on road 40% off road, budget is kind of shit, don't want to spend more then ~$350 or so. Criagslist is my best friend but I like new as well, I just don't know what to look for in a good bike. My step dad has a Giant Boulder Se and that's probably the nicest bike I've ever ridden and it's pretty fun to ride. So something similar to that, I suppose.
I checked for a wut bike iz gud sticky but you guys don't seem to have one. Sorry if this is the 19th thread like this posted today.

They exist. Around , suddenly the last month or two, they're common. At least in my part of Brooklyn... I've only been cut off once in two weeks. And it wasn't dangerous, just rude. Made me have to slow down. And it was my turn, not his. ...that's it. EVERY other car has been unfailingly more polite than I'm used to anyone being in NYC. Crowning point was Friday, on my commute home: car behind me slowed and opened a space so I could pass the mess of slowpokes who'd shoaled at the bottom of the hill.
What the fuck?

So, /n/, what is the point of being a tourist/heritage railroad when you just rebuild historical locomotives?
CVSR is rebuilding their historic ALCo locomotives, into ULELs. I agree the prime movers and alternators should be upgraded, but they're going to rebuild the entire locomotive, inside and out. Opinions?
