Fellow Tra/n/sporters sorry in advance for the long post, but I hope this is more interesting than the standard daily "oh hai /n/ wat bike iz gud?" thread. There is no TL;DR you'll just have to >dealwithit.jpg To put all this into context first off: >Be me 30yrs old >riding recreationally for 15 or so years >been a more serious rider for like 4 years. >have a couple of decent mountain bikes, one entry/mid level road bike and one single speed. >am fairly knowledgeable and ok with a spanner. Ride road bike the most now - few times a week and one 60+ mile ride at weekends. >also because of, LOL insomnia >hence why 03:00am here and I spend time thinking of dumb stuff like this thread. >I've been thinking about getting a CX bike as it would suit my needs pretty well for a lot of riding round where I live. 1/3 continued...

Alright, so I found out something intredasting today. Anyways, on my bike is a brand new KMC chain. After 400 miles of pretty dusty trail, I removed it to give it a good soak in mineral spirits and re-lube with fresh Boeshield. I had cleaned it while on the bike and relubed it once before about halfway. I removed the chain, placed it inside a glass jar with a metal lid, poured some spirits in it and gave it a good shake. All the factory grease came off and I was left with a sparkling chain. Then I stuck a very powerful magnet that I pulled out of an old hard drive and stuck it to the top of the metal lid, flipped it upside down and gave it a good shake. This is what remains. A decent-sized pile of ferrous material was embedded in the chain. Take from it what you will but I think I will stick to using wax-based lubricants from now on. Perhaps even soak new chains in spirits and relube with Boeshield or White Lightning or something. The factory lube is too much of a dust magnet and contributes to the grinding-paste effect.

Knee fracture recovery

5 weeks ago I had an accident where I suffered a knee fracture. The bottom part of my patella was broken and still it's not 100% healed. My next checkup is due in 2 weeks. I've asked my doctor if I should go to physical therapy in the meantime untill it heals 100% but he said I don't really need to (?!). I still went to write myself up but the first available date is 4.9 and untill then I'm kinda left on my own. I've already checked up some exercises online but I'd like some input from people that have suffered a simillar injury, what exercises did you do, did physical therapy help you, etc. Please write everything you think could be helpfull. I really want to get back on my bike as soon as possible but of course I want my knee to heal up completely so I won't have any problems with it in the future. Since I'm really skinny by nature(175cm,55kg) my muscles on that leg are completely gone. At the moment I'm using a knee orthosis which I've asked for instead of a cast. And I can walk with it without any issues. As for those wondering it's Davor(Croatia) from the Strava group.

>>36196792 /g/ sent me here So, I've accumulated several hundred hours, and I really need a new aviation headset. Any recommendations /n/? Currently using a secondhand cheap David Clark that's terribly uncomfortable, and I'd rather not wear it for much longer if I can help it. I'd like to find something nice for ~$700-$800 if that would be possible.

Anyone got a Mongoose "Walgoose" Beast? Seem like a good entry level fat bike, seeing as it costs 200 dollars at walmart.

Bike rear tire is almost always fucked up

11 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: 5595.jpg]
So I took my bike to my LBS yesterday to get a new tire + tube and while it's awesome, I notice that the Schrader valve is pushed in, so that it's impossible to screw the cap on all the way and that it's losing air whenever weight is applied to it (i.e. my ass is on the seat). >pic related, imagine nothing but most of the threaded part exposed It also happens whenever I have to inflate a tire that's almost completely deflated, the valve will just get pushed in... is it what's causing the flat or did I run something over?

Hi /n/, I was wondering which of these bikes is better, to me it seems they're pretty much the same. I was looking for a new road bike with nice components. Are there other alternatives? I looked at the CR3 but it only came in malet sizes like 48cm. Thanks.

Im such a dipshit. Lost 3/4 bolts on the trail, had to limp the bike home. I have essentially the same setup in pic, except w/ 64bcd bashring as opposed to the n-stop anyone have a source for a low cost, but not shitty, bolts? I only lost the bolt, not the other inner piece the bolt screws into to

my girlfriend saw her bike recently stollen. Hopefully she had another "old" bike into her basement. The problem is the front brake is dead. In german it's a Mittelzugbremse, Centerpull brake. I wanted to ask you if it's like a standardized fixation, having found such kind of model on the net for a swap: http://www.onlinefahrradshop.de/xtcommerce/304SP2.1_package_full/304SP2.1_release/xtcommerce/product_info.php/info/p422_Shimano-Mittelzugbremse.html

Hi /n/igs, I'm trying to get a road bike since i'm moving back into the city and would rather have a nice sleek light bike compared to my mountain bike which is just some beater bike thats the same age as me (20), now i'm poor as fuck being a student so is it possible to find decent road bikes for cheap on places like ebay? i'm talking like £100 I'll post some links so people who know their shit could give me an opinion, thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maruishi-Road-Bike-LEAD-l607-/251320607164?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item3a83e021bc http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/viking-giro-ditalia-road-racing-bike-bicycle-lightweight-14-speed-/161086818037?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item258185c6f5 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Viking-roma-road-racing-bike-61cm-frame-/121162059149?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item1c35d24d8d http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-Raleigh-Royal-road-touring-bike-Reynolds-531-large-/251321719802?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item3a83f11bfa http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genesis-Day-00-Hybrid-Road-Racing-Bike-Aluminium-Frame-London-/290961455432?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item43bea77948

Why does much of /n/ hate fixed gears even when they have brakes? Why does it seem that this hate is never directed at Single Speeds despite being so similar? Also why is coasting generally considered superior to being able to mitigated speed using adjustments in cadence? >not talking about brakeless

When I'm in the lowest 2 gears (which I really don't use much anyway), the upper pulley on my derailleur loses contact with the chain. Is it always supposed to be touching or is this ok? I'm trying to learn how to keep it adjusted properly so I can ditch the dork disk.

How much to get a trail bike in the UK

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: The Place Beyond the Pines Trail Bike.jpg]
Hey /n/, I just turned 18 a month ago, and I figure that I really ought to get round to obtaining a method of transport after procrastinating for the past year and a half. Anyway, I was looking into getting a trail bike because: A - I couldn't afford to buy or insure a car B - Better fuel economy C - I would like to be able to use this off-road (I live in a rural area surrounded by fields) So, I was wondering roughly how much money it would take to, from scratch, buy a trail bike, buy all equipment needed, get fully licensed (to A1 - I would only want a 125CC engine) and everything else required (MOT, CBT etc.)? I have roughly £1400 at my disposal, would this be enough (I would be looking to find a pretty cheap second hand bike)? Also, would I be able to sit a CBT and start riding the trail bike straight away with no supervision (at least not on motorways)?
