http://www.skytran.net/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skytran So /n/, remember the 100mph electric maglev pods? They're still working on them. The first public experiment will be in Tel Aviv in 2014. Hopefully the public will enjoy it. Are you hyped? I think this is the best PRT system conceived so far, in terms of development cost and efficiency it would be Elon Musk's wet dream. You can apparently travel in excess of 100mph using the energy equivalent of two electric hairdryers. Though some might prefer pods that seat four instead of two.

Frame Failure Probability

Questio/n/: If I were to ride a (presumably) Hi-Ten mountain bike in a converted form on some recreational trails, perhaps fun "cyclocross" races with friends, would anything bad happen? I mean, what are the chances this 90s CCM mountain bike I found is gonna snap underneath me? I know this isn't top of the line shizz here, but I've got the frame and nothing intense is gonna be happening on it, so is something like pic related really gonna happen? >inb4 get a new bike this one was free. gotta save my sheckles.

Other than weight would there be a disadvantage putting a dropper seat post on a gravel (re-tasked old cyclocross) bike?

hi /n/ I have an old kola miyata (pic related randonneur from 1980) in that I used to ride when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, the crank gears are broken and it is "irreparable" according to a bike technique in a shop (he told me that 4 years ago...). Do you think it is possible to repair it, like changing the pedal set? I think it is but I need advices ;)

My truck has a Cd stereo. No cassette, or aux port. I'd really like to listen to my iPod during drives.I can't decide weather to get a new stereo, or just try to install an Fm Mod. I'm not good with wiring or car stereos. What would Jesus do?

Thinking of losing gears.

So I was riding my 70's Raleigh Grand Prix 10-speed and the chain kept slipping off while I was shifting to my smaller gear. Upon inspection I saw that I'd lost one of my chain ring bolts and the inner (small) gear was flopping out of the way. I usually don't use that gear set anyway so I'm thinking of just pulling it and the front derailleur off and turning my 10 speed into a 5 speed. My usual riding doesn't have that many hills in it but I honestly live at the bottom of the Sawtooth Mountain range in Minnesota, so that may really suck in the future. Thoughts or comments on dropping gears on a bike? I've never done that before.

What are some companies that are likely to benefit from an expansion of rail services in the US? I'm talking mainly personal transportation, both local light rail and regional passenger services.

I have a really weird problem with my bicycle's front sprocket. I don't have a picture, but it's SERIOUSLY hooked. But not every tooth. Only five or six on the ring are actually hooked, and they're spaced somewhat evenly around the ring. The wear is so severe that it actually has a visible ledge that goes in a couple millimeters. It's like someone took a small file to the back of the teeth and gouged out a chunk. And the parts aren't even that old. Pretty much everything but the frame was replaced last June, and I only ride it about three miles a day, mostly downhill or on flattish ground. How bad am I fucking up, /n/?

So I recently moved to a big city, and kind of don't have time/means to reach the local trails anymore. So I've been riding allot in the city with my mtb just mucking about. I think it's time I step it up though, and get me a real street bike. I recently found this Specialized P. 1 2010 for around 800$. Anyone has any experience with this bike?

Winter Commuting Shoes

So last winter I rode my bike to work in New England everyday with a pair of Van's knock-off Puma shoes. They are great with a pair of nice wool socks except on rainy or slushy days. Does anyone have any opinion on good shoes for when it gets wet? Plastic bags over my socks? It would be nice if my shoes were not still soaking wet when it it is time to ride home at the end of the day. Rubber boots? I saw these Chrome shoes but they are a bit pricey and also they are Chrome. http://www.chromeindustries.com/us/en/footwear/storm-truk-black

Time for an Extreme Fall/Winter Makeover. I have absolutely no fucking clue on how to ride during the winter. Everything I seem to wear (regular clothes) causes me to sweat profusely, or be cold by the time I arrive at my destination. The biggest problem is my arms. They are full on water faucets by the time the destination is reached. Current temperatures 7-14. Winter temperatures will go down to -15, with -10 being the average. This is Celsius. The question is, what the hell do I buy to brave the autumn that has already begun, and how do I survive in the winter? I want to continue riding, but I just don't know how. This can be a general purpose "what to wear when the weather isn't sunshine and summer" thread. I've heard base layers, warmers, etc. but I have no idea how any of that stuff works as I've never used it before. Gotta start somewhere I guess? Can you link me to shit on www.wiggle.com that is cheap, and yet does the job? I want to keep riding. HELP! Pic related, it's my ride.
