Frame Failure Probability

If I were to ride a (presumably) Hi-Ten mountain bike in a converted form on some recreational trails, perhaps fun "cyclocross" races with friends, would anything bad happen? I mean, what are the chances this 90s CCM mountain bike I found is gonna snap underneath me? I know this isn't top of the line shizz here, but I've got the frame and nothing intense is gonna be happening on it, so is something like pic related really gonna happen?
>inb4 get a new bike

I have a really weird problem with my bicycle's front sprocket.
I don't have a picture, but it's SERIOUSLY hooked. But not every tooth. Only five or six on the ring are actually hooked, and they're spaced somewhat evenly around the ring.
The wear is so severe that it actually has a visible ledge that goes in a couple millimeters. It's like someone took a small file to the back of the teeth and gouged out a chunk.
And the parts aren't even that old. Pretty much everything but the frame was replaced last June, and I only ride it about three miles a day, mostly downhill or on flattish ground.
How bad am I fucking up, /n/?

Time for an Extreme Fall/Winter Makeover.
I have absolutely no fucking clue on how to ride during the winter. Everything I seem to wear (regular clothes) causes me to sweat profusely, or be cold by the time I arrive at my destination. The biggest problem is my arms. They are full on water faucets by the time the destination is reached.
Current temperatures 7-14. Winter temperatures will go down to -15, with -10 being the average. This is Celsius.
The question is, what the hell do I buy to brave the autumn that has already begun, and how do I survive in the winter? I want to continue riding, but I just don't know how.
This can be a general purpose "what to wear when the weather isn't sunshine and summer" thread.
I've heard base layers, warmers, etc. but I have no idea how any of that stuff works as I've never used it before. Gotta start somewhere I guess?
Can you link me to shit on www.wiggle.com that is cheap, and yet does the job?
I want to keep riding. HELP!
Pic related, it's my ride.
