Had a bad mountain biking accident > 12 months ago, mostly healed now, but the thing that is still bothering is that I destroyed the radial head in my elbow and I can't straighten it out anymore, stops with about 40degree left to go. I was on a large frame mountain bike it was borderline too large for me, but was OK prior to the accident, it is really bad for me to ride now, instant pain in my shoulder and elbow due to the way the weight is distributing itself with my bung arm. Rode my wife's mountain bike which is a medium and it is OK. Questions are: >Should I get fitted up with a custom/aftermarket on my current bike? >buy a smaller frame and transplant all the equipment (it is deore SLX)? >Will a suspension front fork go straight over to the new frame or will it mess up the geometry? >Just give up, sell the bike and buy a medium frame? pic unrelated

/n/, I'm going to buy a mountain bike tomorrow and would like your advice about a couple of options I have. Which of these three bikes is the best value, considering the components and errything? Assume I'm indifferent based on my test rides. >inb4 go to /asp/ You guys know more about bike guts 1. http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2012/archive/trek/remedy_8/ $2,000 2. http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/en/heckler-alloy#builder $2,400 3. http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/en/bronson-alloy#builder $3,100 I test rode the heckler and bronson and liked em both. I haven't tested the remedy yet but I think it will be similar (other than 26 inch wheels vs 27.5 on the others) and price is reduced from $3,000.

1993ish Bridgestone MB-2, picked up on craigslist for $100 a few years ago. Changed the stem to Nitto Dirt Drop, the bars to On One Mary Bars, the saddle to Brooks, the peddles to something, added a Tubus rack and now have a nice touring bike.

bikesdirect help. I just received my Mercier Kilo TT pro yesterday. I just finished assembling it, but I am left with these parts left over. Does anybody know what they are for? I am not a complete /n/oob, I have been riding a 21 speed hybrid and knew enough to assemble it. It actually came with both tektro brakes. Are the pieces all related to the wheel reflectors? Also bikesdirect opinions and beginner setup tips. I lubed it pretty damn good, i'd say.

I don't know much about bikes but I just got this cheap $100 road bike to replace my 25 year old mongoose mountain bike. So far it's a way smoother ride and loads more efficient. I'm having an issue though; it's a one gear bike and it feels like a very low gear compared to my mongoose's highest gear, so although it gets me going fast much quicker, I'm afraid it will never reach the speed the mongoose reached. I thought if I got a bigger chain set (name?) it would allow me to go faster, but like I said I'm not too educated so I'm seeking your advice.

Well I think I finally did it /n/. I busted my knee riding singlespeed exclusively for a year almost every day. Everything was fine in the beginning, then I would get slight pains in my right knee every now and then but only after long tours. Then two weeks ago we did this 130km tour through a very hilly area and I was riding 48x16 so I had no other way of getting up the hills then pedaling at full force like a madman. Afterwards my knee hurt quite a bit and I was hobbling for a few days but it went away. A few days after we did another tour, pretty short but with strong headwinds and this time it got so bad I almost didn't make it home because I could only pedal with one leg. Now it starts to hurt after half an hour every time I ride, even with lighter gear ratios. Has anyone had any similar experiences? I have a doctors appointment next week, I'm scared shitless he might tell me that I should stop riding bikes because I might as well kill myself.

Hey guys, I am moving from a MTB to a Road Bike and I am on a very tight budget $300. I would like to buy a new bike and I really won't want one from craigslist, maybe ebay, but that would be pushing it. Anyway, I saw this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087D8LPI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Any opinions? Good? Bad? All suggestion are appreciated.

I want to build an aerodynamic baby seat that mounts on my bike. At first I considered a baby seat that attached behind me but then I realized I could make a windshield and use the baby up front to deflect wind and create a more aerodynamic profile than I could do alone. How would I go about doing this? What kind of supports could I use to attach the baby seat to my bike? Also, how could I make this as safe as possible for my baby.

baggie stuck in seat post/tube

Hello /n/, I've an odd question for you guys; I bought some unmentionables and stuck the baggie of said unmentionables into my bikes seat post. Upon arriving home, I don't seem to find a way to get it out. Originally I though I could use pliers to remove said baggie, but now its slipped too far in to be able for me to get to it. Any advise? And value of baggie is less the cost of simply cutting the tube open. Also if I disassemble my crankset is a home that would allow access to the tube from the bottom? Can't simply let it be, as the unmentionables would begin to emit a very obvious odor and I use the bike daily. Pic related - the bike

How do you manager your times? Right now summer is about to start so I might have some time after I leave my job and before the night falls but during winter I won't have the time to do it.

Hey /n/. I have a conundrum so I have a 1 inch threadless fork an headset and I'm using a 1 1/8th shim. But I got a new stem and it has a shorter stack height than my new stem, so there's this gap from the top cap to the top of the stem. Will I need a 1 1/8th spacer? or does the 1inch to 1 1/8th shim I'm using serve as a spacer since it's pressing down on a 1 inch headset? >pic related

Building a bike from scratch

8 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: 531 Frame 02.jpg]
Hey /n/, I'm hoping to start building up a fast-ish bike from scratch so it'll be ready for the warmer months next year. Got a bit of experience doing maintenance stuff on my current ride (installing new brakes and cables etc) but apart from that I'm pretty novice. Not got a tonne of cash for it so I've been told a 531 frame is a good place to start. Where would you suggest I go from there and how much do you think it will cost me. Most of all is it worth it?
