I was going to get a new 2x11 bike for the new year with my xmas money, and I was looking at a bike with a 50/34 crank and a 11-25 cassette. I also need a gear lower than 39-25 because I'm weak and I have hills, but I want 1t jumps for flat places and ideally a 53x12 equivalent. I wouldn't have the extra $100 for swap cassettes anyways. What is bothering me is that my cruising cadence for flats is 80-90rpm, at 18-20mph. So realistically I want 1t jumps without changing chainrings between 17mph@90rpm and 21mph@80rpm. According to Sheldon @90rpm 50x21 or 34x14 is ~17mph. 50x21 has a 2t jump to 19 and another 2t jump to 17. 34x11-12-13-14 gives a 17-22mph range. @80rpm 34x11 is only 19mph and cross chaining. 50x15 gets me 21mph, and a 18-21mph range across 15-16-17. So @80rpm neither chainring gives me the 1t range I'm looking for unless I reduce the 1t spread to 18-21mph. @90rpm, 50 has 2t jumps, and and 34 is cross chaining. My 2x10 with 53x39 and 12-25 gives me 17-21mph in 39 without quite cross chaining all the way @90rpm. @80rpm 39 gives 17-20mph. Should I just get a 3x10 or 3x9 triple with a 42t ring instead?

Fellow pilots, report in. How is your job hunting going? Flown anywhere lately? Dead broke FI here, no flying over the winter currently, hopefully in the spring I might fly again.

Carbon Steerer - Spacer Above the Stem or Not?

Area of contention, I know better to ask what's correct, so instead I'm seeing what the popular opinion is. >ITT: Carbon Steerer Tubes; spacer above the stem or no spacer above the stem?

Oy! Happy New Years mates! As I was drunkenly pedalling home from the bar tonight I found myself thinking about the cops and the possibility of getting pulled over. I've met one guy who got a BUI (biking under the influence) in my town. Apparently he was riding at night with no lights and the cops stopped him for it. He had a 6 pack in his bike basket with a couple of cans missing so of course that led to the 'how much have you had to drink tonight question' and eventually he got arrested for riding a bike whilst drunk. I myself have been pulled over for not having a headlight, only because it was stolen that day, but other than that I haven't heard or seen much of cyclists getting pulled over and ticketed or arrested. So I am wondering /n/, what is your experience with cycling and the police? Any tickets, any arrests? What were you doing to get the cops attention?

Look, /n /, I'm in serious trouble. I'm new to auto-parts, but my friends automatically assume that because I've taken a few courses in auto repair, I can just fix anything. This is a double edged sword for me, because I love the attention, but I'm not as good as they all think I am. I'm still working, and getting better, but I got into some trouble recently. My friend rammed his car into a fucking tree, and now he assumes that I can fix it up. I didn't even give the car a good look and I said I would help. When he asked what I'd do I said, and don't fucking make fun of me for it, I said that I could disassemble some of my bike parts and use them as spare parts for the car. OK I FUCKING GET IT, I PANICKED I'm looking into the car now, there's some engine issues that'll I'll be able to fix easily, but of course he'll need to take the car to a full on mechanic for some of the bigger stuff. What I'm asking is this, is there any possible way I could lie to this guy and tell him I used bike parts in a believable manor to fix the car? Of course I won't use the parts, but I don't want to just say "ha ha ha, I was just joking" or some shit, or he make think I'm being stupid. Is there anything I could say?

I don't know how to ride a bike. I didn't learn/was never taught as a kid, and now I'm 20 and I am too embarrassed to go out onto a street with a helmet and pads and show the world how much of a worthless faggot I am. I really don't know what to do.

Hey /n/, what's a good speedometer? I'm tired of my cheap Bell speedometer sometimes freezing at a certain speed, and also sometimes saying that I'm moving when I'm not (when near certain objects like walls of some buildings). I want the magnet kind, not GPS. I also want to see current speed, average speed, trip distance, overall distance, trip time, and clock. Other features like temperature are nice but not necessary. I don't really have a price range, I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars but I want something that's good, so whatever that costs. Any recommendations on a specific model or on a brand? Thanks.
