What's the best bike for SHTF? My leaning is either a cyclocross bike or a cross country mountain bike. Probably a cyclocross bike. Fast for pavement but still able to go offroad when necessary. But for certain mountainous locations, especially if the roads aren't paved, a cross country mountain bike might be better.
For those who don't know, SHTF means 'shit hits the fan' and refers to any situation involving an apocalypse, big natural disaster, economic collapse, social collapse, governmnet collapse, revolution, riots, alien invasion, zombies, robots taking over, etc. Basically any of the stuff people expected to happen in 2012. A bike would clearly be the best vehicle in such a situation, the only question is what type.

Londonfag here who is a safe cyclist and hates most other cyclists.
Plans for a suspension-like highway for cycles have been around for a number of years, but were snubbed due to costs and finally put to rest when the Mayor created shitty cycle superhighways- most people don't realise this.
The plans for an elevated cycletrack seem to be back in motion (even though newfags think this idea is new). What do you think? Yay or Nay?
I for one wish that there were whole lanes for cycles on roads, so there would be say 2 car lanes and 1 regular sized cycle lane, coloured bright blue (bus lanes are red here), and three dotted lines dividing the cycle lane into three different cycle tracks. And before you say this is the cycle superhighway, no it isn't.
