I figured this would be the best place to start asking:
A friend of mine and me want to make a bike trip to Riga next summer, to visit another friend. My questions are now
What kind of bike would I need for this? I have already looked around online, but most suggestions are 1200€+, I know quality has its price, but I'd rather buy a medium-price-range bike or assemble one myself.
What are good luggage solutions for a bike trip, we plan to go very minimal, as the countries we pass through are pretty cheap and widely populated.
Has anyone done something similar? If so, can you share any tips?
We both are into sports and pretty fit, and also often ride bikes, so what is a realistic amount of km to achieve daily?
Thanks in advance!

This has been bugging me since Saturday, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask about it here.
I was driving home late Saturday night, when I was stopped at a crossing. A CN train proceeded to rumble past.
I thought this strange for a few reasons.
The first is that, to my knowledge, there weren't any CN lines up this way.
It also idly occurred to me that the train was moving a bit too fast for this single track line which I knew came straight through Genoa.
But anyways, the train went past, and I cleared the crossing, but less than a minute after, I noticed the lights flashing and the gates down again in my mirror. They stayed down for as long as I could see them, and I didn't want to turn around because I was so tired.
My question is, why were the gates down? The switch wasn't stuck, because they had just gone up. It wasn't another train, because it was a single track line, and only a maniac dispatcher would run trains that close together. And it wasn't the same train that stopped, because it was going much too fast.

/N/ I FUCKING NEED YOUR HELP
A while ago, I started a thread, proposing an idea that would bring public transit across rural areas. It was seriously one of the better threads on /n/, but it appears I lost the thread
I must have started the thread about three weeks ago, and it was active up until a week and a half ago or so.
Is there a way that I can recover it? I'll post the text in the next post, to see if you'll be familiar with it
