MTB conversion to Commuter

Hey /n/ <--- that's my old hard tail that I'm thinking about converting into a commuter. >2007 Jamis Durango 1.0 http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2007&Brand=Jamis&Model=Durango+1.0&am p;Type=bike#.UId2VIVZZvY It about an 8 km ride to work. I gain about 140 m in elevation from my house to work in a fairly long hill. I already have some smoother tires and am planning on changing out my knobby tires. I have a backpack that I'm going to use to get my shit back and forth to start, but I'm not opposed to panniers as/if required. Thoughts? Has anyone out there converted a hardtail to a commuter? Anything to watch out for? General advice?

hi /n/ i'm buying a lock and was thinking of getting a kryptonite new york m18... wondering if there is better bang for the buck or if this was a good lock to get? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000AOA3W6/ref=asc_df_B000AOA3W610247551?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=goog lecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B000AOA3W6

I was thinking about getting a new chain for my 30 speed shimano bike since Its got about 1200km on It and the one I had In mind Is the KMC X10SL. The thing Is there are two versions of the chain, the usual steel silver and a golden titanium nitride coated version which supposedly makes the chain last longer but Is more expensive. Does the titanium nitrade coating make any difference or Is It just a neat way of coloring the chain? Pic related, some random bike with the shinny chain In question.

When you send a letter from country A to country B, you buy a stamp in country A, put it on your letter and send the letter away. The letter gets transferred to country B and gets delivered to the receiver. How does the mail service in country B get compensated for their service?

Hey /n/ the picture you see is my bike, not actually my bike but this is what it looked like brand new. It's a consenza which I have never heard of and have tried to look up the bike to no avail however this is not my point. My point is the bikes shifters are broken so I am just gonna take everything off and make it into a fixed. I am getting new tires today new chain today hopefully and basically here is the deal the chain is already on the highest gear 5 I believe on the wheel but my crank is stuck on the lower gear the chain is straight so I'm just gonna get a fixed chain put it on after I take out the dereailer thing that keeps the chain tight. Will this work?

In short, I need a 26" 36h rear wheel with freewheel threads. I already bought the 19T white industries freewheel for it. I don't want some $35.00, complete avenir wheel because I am going to be doing medium-load touring with it. So this hub is only $25 on ebay. I have never heard of it but does /n/ think it is durable?

About a year ago I was looking into a new saddle and I got measured by a shop but never made the buy. Anyway, it's time now and I forget which direction to buy; I'm 143mm and I don't know if I'm supposed to buy slightly narrower or slightly wider, e.g. 135mm or 150mm. Which is it, /n/?

would replacing the stem/handlebars on this bike make like a road bike or would further changes be needed to change the geometry more

So, I found it on the street just standing by container where you can throw clothes for poor people. It's a Batavus Ascot - Made in Holland. I think it looks lovely - so I thought I will take care of it. It looks kinda steampunkish. I haven't ride it yet, though. The lamp is mega-rusted, btw it's a work of art for me. I have a feeling that this bicycle has a soul, and someone threw it away. :( Opinions on this bicycle, /n/?

Hey /n/. I've never really been here before. I knew you existed, but I have never come here. The reason I came is to ask something of you all. I am getting a bike either tonight or tomorrow. I have a list of mountain bikes. It's only six bikes, but they all are from Wally World. They have to be, poorfag and that's the only thing there is. The reason I'm getting a bike is to bike to and from class in my college town and to do some light trails with my dad to get him in shape. Can I get some advice? Pic related, the bike I'm leaning towards. Mongoose Ledge 2.1

Yo. I'm being cheap, and buying literally the cheapest pair of cycling shoes I can find. (I'm a student so have 0 monies) My question is: I am normally a size 7 1/2 or 8. What size cycling shoe should I go for. I was thinking 8. They come in half sizes.
