/o/ My truck is giving me a few problems lately, most after I decided to give it the love it needs.
My vehicle is:
1989 Mitsubishi Montero
V6 3.0, 4x4
This truck was sold to my mother for 1k. The previous owners gave her quite a beating. Used to run it with barely any motor oil, said the gas gauge was not working, yet it was after I poured $40 in gas which led me to believe they ran it without more than $10 every now and then. They used to go into rivers with it like this. It doesn't have a catalytic either. And they sold it stating it had "a normal oil leak".
When the truck was passed to me, which was about a month later, I decided to change all it's tires and decided to tend to it's oil leak, which was motor oil. It's head gasket set was "taken care of" by a "trusted" family mechanic. About 2 weeks later, oil on the floor again but much less. By that time college got a firm grip on my budget and had to put the vehicle on hold, for about a year... During this time I tried to use it as less as possible, and checked oil levels weekly.
Fast forward to a month ago. It leaves me hanging on a gas station close to home. Street mechanic I know comes around to check, oil inside starter, starter being held by only one bolt and it wasn't even it's original one, the other is nowhere to be seen. Leave vehicle with him, manage to get head gasket set. He only worked while I was there with a friend who is a mechanic also, but he comes when he can because he's tending to college (mechanical engineer). So we start working on the engine. Find out that the gasket set was NEVER touched a year ago by that "trusted" mechanic. Everything looked old and fucked up. I don't know much about vehicles and everything else related, but if you ask me it looked like they hadn't been changed ever. We finish up, turn the vehicle on... disaster.
