My ignition lock on my 2004 Volvo V40 just decided to completely crap out on me.
I can't turn the key past the II position. I can turn the key to the I position alright (the radio and electronics). Then , it goes half way into the II position (the "on") position, and so I can't get it into the starter position.
I've tried spraying canned air, graphite powder, and even WD40 with no luck.
I'm considering towing it to the dealership because the ignition/starter/etc seems like something that is out of my ability, but just to tow it would cost a ton (it's about 50 miles away).
I'm not really sure what to do.
I thought it was somehow possible to start the engine by inserting the key into the ignition and using a screwdriver and somehow using magic to start it.

Kind of new to high end automakers and I'm looking for a new car since I've inherited and have a "secure" income.
This question might seem strange, but how are modern automakers categorized nowadays? I'd like to know what car brand has what connotation, how it compares to the others, etc.
For example, I've heard that Maserati were cheaper, more discreet and DDable Ferraris. Before I test drive anything, I want to narrow my choices down, so I'd appreciate some advice about this.
