My ignition lock on my 2004 Volvo V40 just decided to completely crap out on me.
I can't turn the key past the II position. I can turn the key to the I position alright (the radio and electronics). Then , it goes half way into the II position (the "on") position, and so I can't get it into the starter position.
I've tried spraying canned air, graphite powder, and even WD40 with no luck.
I'm considering towing it to the dealership because the ignition/starter/etc seems like something that is out of my ability, but just to tow it would cost a ton (it's about 50 miles away).
I'm not really sure what to do.
I thought it was somehow possible to start the engine by inserting the key into the ignition and using a screwdriver and somehow using magic to start it.

Alright, so any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Friend drives a 97 Pontiac Sunfire, which has been acting up lately (Their words) apparently would be driving and be hard to get past 30 MPH, then driving around like 50 the RPM would go crazy, or some shit. Well today, while driving to work, the car starting making a loud clacking or ticking noise, he pulled off to the side and turned the car off.
I drove out there to take a look at the car, couldn't get it running, it would turn over, but it didn't sound right, it didn't have the "Ploof ploof" noise when turning over, it would happen every like third rotation, I don't know if this is like compression related or what. Well, the car wouldn't start untill I gave it like half way gas peddle, and I got it running, and heard the loud ticking noise, and when I took my foot off the gas it immediately died. Can't for the life of me keep it running. Oil is pretty dark, blueish almost.
So, any ideas would be appreciated, I can add more details if needed.

Alright, this is my first time posting on this board. I have a 1998 Crown Victoria LX. When I tried to start it this morning, it started clicking. It DID start and run fine, other than that , however. I'm thinking it's either the starter or the alternator, but honestly i have no idea.
Pic related, it's my car exactly
