If your car is completely bone stock than you're not a car enthusiast and you lack personal taste and originality. What is the point in owning a car and keeping it the original factory build? It literally just tells me you're a big faggot.

What if I have simple, functional mods rather than just slamming it to the ground putting some ugly body kit on it and giving it more horsepower. Also just because your car is low doesn't mean it turns better.

Well brembo for example is an OEM supplier. None of the aftermarket performance components will undergo as much testing for reliability and driveability as what the manufacturer will do. Modifying for increased safety or comfort is okay if that's what you want to do.
I have some acceptance for sleepers for the keks. But if you're driving a sports car or any car for that matter and want to go faster, nothing will be as cheap, reliable and not to mention easier than buying a car that was designed to go faster in the first place with the full backing of the manufacturer.

You're unecessarily restricting the definition - surely a car enthusiast is just someone eh o is enthusiastic about cars?

I mean, by your logic someone who is literally a racing driver but happens to drive a stock road car is less of an enthusiast than this girl I knew who painted her Ford Ka pink because "it cuuuuuteee!!!"

Aaaaaah, stop being such a ruddy puritan. An enthusiast is surely, as the name suggests, just someone wo is enthusiastic about cars. I mean, fuck, the captain of my karting team's beemer is stock - does that make him less of an enthusiast than this girl I used to know who had her Ka resprayed pink because "soooooo cuuuuuteeeee XDXDXD"?

Modifications are tacky and unnecessary, a true enthusiast can appreciate the work and care the engineers put into a machine.

If you can't then you just need to get a better car.
I'd also argue the complete opposite when it comes to lack of personal taste and originality, not saying that modifications cannot be tasteful, they just usually aren't.

And they almost never are for a road vehicle you'll hoon with your beta aspiring chav friends once.

Just saying.

Cars, especially mid range sporty cars, are often corked from the factory for CAFE and EPA regulations and can gain significant power just by opening them up. You might be including this in your definition of "from the factory" though.

This so much. If you are truly an enthusiast you will at least change a couple of things about your car. The only time I agree with keeping it oem is when you buy a classic vehicle.

Another thing that bothers me is when people always use the "it's a sleeper" argument. Unless it is truly some sort of badass sleeper, its just a lame (and kinda fast) shitbox. It seems like 90% of people use the sleeper excuse as a copout because they are too broke to modify their car properly.

'Sleeper' implies totally bone stock exterior and a monster engine build though, if it's just got a cam and an air filter it hardly qualifies.

I understand what a sleeper means, but more often than not you'll get kids in a shitbox w/ bolt ons and they call it a sleeper. Exhaust cut-offs on a crown-vic does not make it a race car!

This seems like the correct thread to ask.

I'm picking this (pic related) up today, '04 Neon SRT-4, and it's bone stock; this means factory wheel hop. Now, I've been reading that solid mounts and lower control arm bushings fix this to a varying degree and that others swear by traction bars. My question to /o/ is this, dies anyone have any first hand experience with any if the aforementioned mods and vehicle?

I do plan to mod the car lightly in the future (BOV, intake, exhaust, boost, tune, and some light suspension work) but if like to put the "power" it had not down efficiently before giving it more.

>Aftermarket wheels

Why do so many people have flashy aftermarket wheels on their vehicles and dark tinted windows? i mean seriously, is there something wrong with the rims that came with the vehicle stock or do you just not have anything better to spend money on?
