So here's the jist in a TL;DR manner
Car: 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS
Problem: Fucked up rear axle
Solution: Replaced stock 2.73 open differential with a 3.55 locking differential from a P71 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.
Issue: My speedometer is off and now the check engine light has come on.

After the check engine light came on, I had a mechanical inspection done by a mechanic to see if I had messed anything up. My suspicion is that the ABS wheel sensors aren't matching the speed measured by the vehicle output speed sensor that is attached to the speedometer cable. Is there anyone who has had this issue or an idea for a fix?

Might it be possible to get the ecu from the police interceptor as well?

Sounds a bit round about to me, but that might be workable and perhaps a performance upgrade of sorts? What does /o/ think?

I don't think you need an entire ECU, though my experience is with a chevy so I'm not sure if the ABS is separate from the ECU.

I don't remember exactly the year that this came into play, i think it was around 03, but if you do a major gear ratio swap on panthers like that you need to get the car tuned, also will fix the speedometer. look at crownvic.net, you'll learn everything you need to know and more

This poster is correct. When going from 2.73 to 3.55 you will need:

-a tune for the speedometer (if 03+)
-new speedometer gears (if -02)
-possibly an aluminum driveshaft if you're driveshaft isn't balanced and is causing issues

I would recommend a tune regardless because it will free up some HP and probably make your shift points a bit more. It will probably fix your CEL, since you're on a 2003+ panther.
