Ignoring social factors like how much easier it is to win a print comp if you tell them your shot was taken with a Leica or whatever the judges consider "cool", are there any technical reasons left for shooting film? Or is it all about fitting in with/standing out from the crowd? [EXIF data available. How do you feel about grey market cameras/lenses? Have you ever had a grey market item serviced or repaired without any trouble? On a similar note: Does anyone know how to get around paying the ridiculous taxes that B&H and Adorama charge? They wanted $80 for a speedbooster... I guess we can just make this a "How to get good deals" thread

STUPID OR BASIC QUESTIONS THREAD

Don't see the last stupid questions thread, so why not start a new one? Please forgive me if I've overlooked the last; I really don't see it. You all know the drill: post any and all of your noobish questions that you'll be chastised for in other gearsturbation and caturday snapshit threads. I'll start it off with something that will be hard to top in terms of stupidity: I'm in the market for a new compact rangefinder and have chosen to replace my yashica gsn with an Olympus 35 SP: with full manual controls and spot metering at the push of a button, it's exactly what I need right now. However, my dearest uncle Ken lists I'm his "cons" section of the review that it has no dof scale, but I see a distance scale right on the lense for prefocusing in pic related. Am I confusing two different features? Thanks. [EXIF data available. Click here to show/hide.] Camera-Specific Properties:Image-Specific Properties:

Show me your darling shots of natural people blatantly unaware that they are being photographed. Portraits are fine too. Here's one I took on the way home, instantly thought of The Intouchables if you've seen it. If not, strongly recommend.

How good quality are these cheapo speedlights/flashes? A decent buy for sub $200 or are they just going to fall about or be useless?

Non-West Photos

As implied, post your shots that are taken outside of the western sphere of civilization. I'll post a few of mine from Kenya, taken last year February. It's appreciated if you write a bit about the photo, where it was taken, any impressions from the place, describe your thoughts about the particular shot that you chose. Love reading about this kind of stuff, and I'm sure others do too! Try to have a selective mind when choosing the shots. The first shot of mine is taken in Kibera, Kenya. The locals refer to their home as the People's Settlement of Kibera, but in reality it is Africa's second largest slum area with dreadful living conditions. The shacks, or mud huts rather, are about 10 cm apart from each other and in some huts, they even used trash to fill out the spaces in the mud. It was totally eye opening and perspectivizing to come here. The whole place reeked of human waste, exhaust gas, burning fire and cooked fish. Chickens were kept in small little wooden cages, you'd see chickens getting decapitated here and there and stray dogs could be seen scavenging for food. I had pictures of the chickens and dogs, but sadly I lost the memory card before I went back home so can't show you that. This shot in particular is interesting, it's a great capture of the everyday life in the slum, people relaxing and socializing, going about their everyday tasks and routines. Probably one of my favourite shots taken in Kenya. Sorry if this is too much text for you reptile brains ;^) Whatcha guys got?

Hey /p/! I started taking photos on January this year, and want to get better at it. I'm looking for some constructive criticism as well as some tips. I'm using my Sony Alpha Nex-3N and editing my photos with Adobe Lightroom. This picture was taken with the E-mount Lens 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 on aperture mode. Shutter Speed 1/30, f/4.5 and ISO 200 Any thoughts about it? [EXIF data available. So, my friend is selling his Fujifilm X-T1 for 900 CAD$ (around 815 US$). Body only. It seems like a good deal and I still own a shitty camera. Anybody have experience with this one ? Image samples are looking good but I don't know much about Fujifilm in general, love their colors but that's about it. Thoughts ?
