Do you take photos or do you make photos?

75 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
There's a huge amount of photos posted here that are just captures of things that are naturally occurring in life, with very little input from the photographer. This is TAKING photos. Let's post photos that we put effort into, in order to MAKE a photo. Wardrobe, location, rearranging items in the scene, lighting, composition, what you were intending to communicate, etc. Along with your photo, post your process, what drew you to the idea, or your reasoning. Post something that shows a bit of your creative process, and help others learn to make their own photos, rather than just taking what the world provides. Try not to be pretentious and "art school". We're not idiots here. [EXIF data available. As per the discussion in the last Stupid Questions thread, I think it's time we re-evaluated our stance on image sizes on /p/. I've been here for about 7 or 8 years now. Back then, 1000px made sense. /p/ was hosted on the slowest server, most cameras were around 12-14 megapixels (and a lot of people were still shooting with 6-8 megapixel D40's and Rabbles). Smartphones were barely a thing and they had terrible displays. This is 2014, however. Even your basic entry level Nikon comes with 24 megapixels. Have any of you looked at a 1000 pixel photo on a current smartphone? They're tiny. 4k displays are commonplace, and laptop displays are getting much better. Even the most basic $120 lcd is 1920x1080, and many are 2560x1440. Apple just announced their 5k iMac today. And, as far as I know, all of the 4chan boards are now hosted on the same servers, so 4 megs on /hr/ or /gif/ should load as fast as they do here. My point is that 1000px is an anachronism. The MINIMUM posting requirement on /hr/ is 1000px. Why is it still our maximum? Let's vote on it. http://strawpoll.me/2795055

Just a friendly reminder that Terry Richardson is an uncreative faggot who does nothing else than putting the flash close to the lens, put it on "burn her skin" and shoot the models in front of a white background. He was just lucky that someone liked his photos and now he's a millionaire for literally nothing. I mean, look at his pics: its always always always the same boring shit. Everybody, even the most rookie, untalented monkey with a camera could make the same pictures with no effort. I dont even envy him, I'm just angry that a fag like Terry gets the money while real photographers who make real good pictures dont get any fame and barely enough money to pay their bills. BTW: Now that Amazon has the patent for pics infront of white backgrounds, will he get fucked over?

Don't worry about subject, composition, framing, story-telling, post processing, whatever. If they're there, great, but who cares right now. Post photos you've taken that have gorgeous light. e-mount thread

Let's try this. Curious how many people are shooting e-mount stuff on /p/. Which bodies and what lenses. What do you like or not like about the system? I recently got a Fotodiox adapter for the a6000 to use my Canon FD lenses. I was surprised how well that works with focus peaking and magnification. It's definitely more fun than using the fiddly little kit-lens. Still really not feeling the EVF on the a6000, especially coming from a Canon F1. The resolution is shite and in high-contrast situation you can kiss color fidelity goodbye. Also I feel like the optics in front of the EVF are hindered by the small size of the camera.

This weeks challenge is to do with narrative. Bonus points for something that makes sense. As usual, no pulling photos form your archive, the whole point is to get you out taking new photatos. Good luck and have a great weekend /p/haggots!

Is Pentax done?

6 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
In my search for my first good SLR, I find intrigued with the K-3. But every "expert" I've talked to in a store has acted like Pentax is on the way out. "You'll have a hard time finding lenses. We haven't seen our Pentax rep in a long time." "Ricoh cares more about copiers and printers." "They won't come out with a full-frame." I'm interested in the K-3, but these comments make me want to go Canon. Does Pentax have a future?

>All my gear got stolen >All I have left is my tamron 70-200 2.8 vc >All Canon gear So I'm thinking about switching to Nikon, I had a 6D before and while it was a bretty good camera, it has a god awful AF system. The D750 is in the same price range (somewhat) and seems to be better in just about every aspect. If I were to get a D750 I'd have to exchange my 70-200 for a Nikon mount version, as well as get new lenses in general. But I know fuckall about Nikon lenses, canon seemed to have lenses for every occasion and every price range, Nikon is a little more extreme (either it's crap or it's pro-level stuff - at least that's the impression I got). So /p/, what's a good standard prime for nikon? I had a 35mm f2 IS before, so something along those lines would be great. Been looking at the 50mm 1.8G and the 28mm 1.8G as well, but just want to know if there is anything else out there that might suit my needs, third party and whatnot. I would prefer 35 or 50mm, but I can't seem to find a reasonably priced 35mm full frame lens for Nikon. Any suggestions welcome, still can't decide fully if I'm switching or not, also Canon has a deal where you get a free intuos pro medium when buying a 6D. Also get your fucking gear insured because I'm pretty much ruined now. [EXIF data available. Let's talk tripods. I've been shooting with a variety of Canon's that I've been borrowing from the photo lab at my college. Just this past week the remainder of my student loans were dispersed and I went up to Best Buy and bought the Nikon D5300. The camera was out of stock, so they're shipping it to my house. While I was there I also picked up a bag, SD card and tripod. This is about to get ugly, so please help me out guys. I know next to nothing about buying tripods, I've simply never done it before. Actually, I've never bought anything camera related before. This D5300 is actually my first camera (It's supposed to arrive on Thursday, I'm so excited) The tripod I bought was the Sunpak Ultra 7000TM. I've never heard of Sunpak, so I felt a little iffy on it when I was in the store. The sales rep is the one who picked it up, and when I asked the price he never answered. We were interrupted by another customer so my question went un-answered. It's been about 5 days and I just pulled the thing out of the box. I figured I'd try it out with this Canon Rebel XSi that I'm borrowing from my school (I hate this camera, btw. The plastic parts are cracked, and turning the screw thingies to tighten it literaly doesn't do anything! To make matters worse the handle cracked when I lifted it.I checked my receipt and this stupid thing was $90!! Does anybody have a good tripod recommendation? Price doesn't matter at this point. I want to stay in the same price range, but I also don't want to carry around a piece of garbage. I need something reliable, and soon. (Sorry for this wall of text, guys) [EXIF data available.
