What is G.A.S?
Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a term used to describe an urge or compulsion to acquire and accumulate lots of gear. It is often associated with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS and COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR that trigger the need to consistantly research, review, and/or purchase gear. While G.A.S. is not a recognized mental disorder but is associated with other mental disorders including depression, anxiety disorders such as OCD, Non-Substance Behavioral Addiction, and/or Mood Disorders.
G.A.S. can pose a series of negative consequences on your emotional wellbeing, physical health, social & professional life, and financial stability.
G.A.S. treatment varies from person to person. The most effective treatment is to identify the root disorder causing G.A.S. It can then be treated through behavioral therapy, support groups, and medication.
