I'm ditching my Nikon D600 for lighter and more portable gear. I'm looking into mFT, OM-D series really looks nice. Which would you prefer: E-M10 or E-M5? Both cost around the same price, have the same sensor but differ at body (sealing, buttons...). As for lenses, I want to buy one electric driven kit lens for video and photo, and add some primes for "nice" pictures. What do.

Nikon D7200, the king of APS-C?

The sensor is great. The SNR is almost on the 5d MK2. http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Nikon-D7200-versus-Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-II___1020_483 The DR shits all over the 5d MK2. Soon, nikon APS-C cameras will be almost as good as Canon's recent Full Frame ones.

How do you people scan your film slides/negatives? i personaly have an epson v500 but the quality i get from it for 35mm film is totally disapointing and for 120 film kinda disapointing. i wonder if i will get better quality from dslr scanning (plus it will be raws instead of tiffs to work with then). has anyone here made experience from switching from the lower tier epsons to dslr scanning or vice versa? could you share your scans and your workflow on how to improve digitized film? also film scanning general i guess [EXIF data available. Has anyone here ever taken college level fine art photography courses? Did you find the course valuable? I'm contemplating whether to pursue a degree in photography after I finish my current degree this semester. Sorry for the huge image I'm too lazy to resize it.

Where can I find some free photo books /p/. Is there a website where I can download them or something? I'm looking for books from Charles Sheeler, Nick Brandt, Michael Kenna, Arnold Newman etc. And I would buy them don't get me wrong, but I can't find any local place that sells them. Also I would go broke if I bought all the photo books I want to see. So is there some free source where i can browse them digitally?

Haven't taken photos for a long time. Looking to get back into it as a way to get out of the house more often. Gonna post some of my old personal favourites, really just looking for some critique and things to improve on when I had back out with my camera. Can post some more if requested I guess. Hey /p/ I lurk both here and /r/photography, and I wanted to figure out why over there they have such a hardon for this 'No Free Work' movement. I'm going to a family event later in September and I was going to shoot the event for fun. However, taking what reddit had to say, I was conflicted. Should I charge my family for photo work that may be subpar / average when compared to a professional photographer? [EXIF data available. Canon 5D Mark IV Leaked Specs - Worth the upgrade?

There's been lots of rumors flying around about the 5DMKIV, but this actually seems legit. Any MKIII owners upgrading? Canon 5D Mark IV for still shooters 28MP sensor 12fps Dual Pixel AF III New and more advanced AF system (compared to EOS 5D Mark III), apparently it will not be the same AF as the 5D Mark IVc (which sounds a bit weird to me) Anti-flickr technology (seen first on the EOS 7D Mark II) Crop mode (featured on the EOS 5Ds) ISO 100-204.800 (expandable to 409.600)

Violeira

Hi. What follows next is an photo-essay about the place I've grown up: violeira, in the backlands of minas gerais, brazil. It was shot with a Pentax 6x7, a 105mm lens, Fuji Acros and Rollei 80s. Before the pictures, there is a short presentation that I wrote in Portuguese, and then translated to English, poorly, so it's dispensable if it is too bad. * Violeira, a village lying between a creek and the hills that curtail it. There were cows and donkeys grazing in open fields; in the swiddens, fowls proliferated; and, crossing through the gardens and landscapes covered with weeds, there were boys running, and that so many, I was one of them. As a child, I never reached the magnitude of an ox. He haunted me: black eyes, spiky horns, wide ass whence the manure originates. It was sort of a miracle. The asceticism of the dunces astounded me. They who consented with both the dry winter, when the grass was pale and the ground was made of dust and dust; and the summer storms, when the green ponds congregated ticks of all kinds. I never had any intimacy with the roosters: seemed to me very strict. However, the love that the chickens had for the chicks was almost holy, and to me, they were my godmothers. At that time, I wanted to be like the soil: there. But soon I was wrong. As the age came, came the desire: to live in a big city. Developing theories, concepts and aesthetics, none of it ever served me. After all, of the great things I know little; of the small ones, I know even less. Today I intend to redeem myself by photographing. In these pictures, I look for the absences of a childhood. * ps I used to post here on /p/ about three years ago, but since I left digital photography, the film discussion drove me to apug, lfpf, etc, etc [EXIF data available.
