Gear Thread Getting license for a couch edition If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread. Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new. You have been warned! I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here! And don't forget, be polite! /p/ book 2015

>2015 is almost ded. >/p/ makes a book everi year. It will make one this year. Someone needs to elect themselves as leader, collect submissions, coordinate a group of curators, and assemble that shitfight into something that can be printed and bound and bought by the overly keen, or downloaded as a pdf by everyone else. This is the thread where the leader will be chosen. This is the thread where we will determine the categories and criteria for selection. I humbly submit that this years book should be split into two halves, B&W and Colour, because having them mixed in together makes for a very jarring viewing experience. I also humbly submit that only photos posted on /p/ in the 2015 calendar year should be eligible. None of this niksudrabs or gervin swooping in and getting 6 submissions because he put a link in a fucking flickr thread one time bullshit. If you didn't participate in the board, you don't get /p/ book glory. >let the shitfight begin

Well fuck me /p/, my sister just asked me to photograph her wedding tomorrow. Now before you tell me to not do it, hear me out. Tomorrow is what we call the "civil" marriage at the courthouse, and it's supposed to be small and quick. Only family and close friends, sign the papers before a judge, exchange some rings, read some stuff. No bridal gown or tuxes, but formal wear nonetheless. Should be done in 45 minutes or so. The big event will be the "religious wedding" at a church with a priest, and that's when the tuxes and gowns and lots of guests will be happening. That's in 6 months and my sister has hired a proper photographer for that. Nonetheless I don't want to fuck it up, despite my sister telling me she's happy with only 10 pictures. I have no idea what the venue looks like. I've used off-camera flash in a studio environment but have very little experience with events. Here's what I've got: - Fujifilm X-T1 - Fujifilm X100S - 18-55 f/2.8-4 lens kit with OIS - 16-55 f/2.8 - The following primes: 14/2.8, 16/1.4, 23/1.4, 35/1.4, 56/1.2, 90/2 (X-T1 is crop sensor so the FF equivalents are 21, 24, 35, 50, 85, and 135mm) - A couple of Yongnuo flashes + wireless transmitter - A smalled Fujifilm flash - Spare batteries and memory cards I'm thinking of bringing both cameras, the 90mm, and the zooms. I tend to avoid shooting at less than 1/100th of a second since my hands aren't the steadiest, so if the venue is dark I'll go for the kit lens since it has pretty good OIS. I don't want to use flash but I'll bring a Yongnuo just in case. >shooting poorly lit events with mirrorless How badly did I fuck up? What else should I know before going in there blindly?

>A thread for sharing great experiences you've had because you are a photographer, that you would not have had otherwise. Personally, I've been to more cities, and seen more sights along the way, than I EVER would have without the job. I'm grateful every day for the trips I get to take, and the things I would never have seen otherwise.

Photojournalism

How does one into photojournalism. I'm not really talking about being a staff photographer for Reuters. Do any of these guys/gals just go shoot images of events and cold call newspapers? This sort of photography was always the kind that kind of got me excited about things. The necessity of telling a story, exposing well (esp when RIP RAW Reuters), composing well etc. And most of all, getting balls deep in the shit. Getting some photos. So far the best I can do is wait for a gay pride march or something outside and take pictures of police and gays in contrast. Is there some way I can get my ear to the ground and find out about important events around that are worth photographing? [EXIF data available. How do you feel about the works of the Australian photographer Paul Freeman? I think most of his pictures are great, but sometimes I feel his work is plain kitsch instead of being just nostalgic in stylish way (which is his style).

Why not. Send the shit to iggyblackk@gmail.com Rules: 1. Send the photo by January 15, 2016. 2. If you want a name in the book, send it as the subject of the email. (If you decide to change your name later, tough shit.) 3. Photos have to be at least 1800px on the longest side. 4. Well that's pretty much it. Submit if you want, no one's making you. also no curation.

Critique & lense advice

I went around Europe snapping some photos; I have never really held a camera before then but I bought my first DSLR and decided I was going to learn how to use it. All my photos were taken completely with manual settings. I'm also going to move to Buenos Aires in a couple of months and I want to get new lenses. My focus is going to be on wide-angle architecture photography and nightlife (like closeups & groups of people). Looking for a lens and body recommendation for these two types (& possibly a new body, I'm shooting w/ a Nikon D5300) [EXIF data available. I've been shooting with an X-E1 and then X-T10 for 5 or 6 years. I got to wondering whether the full frame thing actually mattered or if Zack Arias wasn't swallowing a shill pill. Borrowed a D750 and damn. This thing fucking delivers the IQ goods. But the shutter is loud as a fucking earthquake. Is the IQ boost a sugar pill? Am I seeing what I want to see? Help me out /p/ before I sell my shit and buy some comparable bigger heavier louder shit.
