Street Photography

Just casually been reading about street photography and Bruce Davidson. 1.) Do I need a certain camera for this style? e.g. small? 2.) Is it hard to get photographs published in a book? I've moved to a new area and I'm seeing it with inquisitive eyes. I'd like to photograph the essence of the area and try and get the pics published.

The selfie

23 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I'd like to discuss the selfie. Why do people (read as normies) like selfies so much? Is it to prove you were at the location? Then why not just have someone take your photo? Does the act of taking the photo yourself make the landscape, monument, view etc. more memorable? Why? What does putting yourself in the frame add to the photo? What about the selfie stick? Sometimes selfie sticks can get the camera to spots you can't reach but then you're shooting blind. Is it a subversion of traditional photography? Ignoring composition and framing and focusing on getting your face in the shot. In my opinion it seems like selfies are one big "haha look at me, i'm being silly, i'm in the photo with the statue XD". But I think this would wear off fast and thus couldn't explain the growing popularity of the selfie? Lastly, is there artistic merit to the selfie at all?

Sensor ded? This only happens in blue channel. The crop is from a flat frame. Can it be corrected before demosaicing?

Printing options

So I've finally managed to shoot enough photos that I feel are worthy enough to sale, and actually had someone ask me for some prints. So can /p/ help with some suggestions? I am mostly considering canvas. I have never done this before. 1. Where do you guys order from? 2. What sizes tend to look/sale the best? How much should these cost to print on average? 3.should I set ppi to larger than 300 and let the printer size down? 4. Whats the best type of canvas for Image quality vs longativity vs cost? Thanks for the in advance. [EXIF data available. what is "contemporary photography"? ive seen that distinction a lot lately. yo never see a definition, but if you see the pictures, you see more or less a common pattern. its not that they are contemporary because they are active in a certain time frame, but because of their themes and overall look. pic related looks contemporary. but is it? alec soth is like the epitome of contemporary, but is he? how do you draw the line, where do you separate the classics (?) of the contemporary?

Any tips for shooting in low income / decadent areas, /p/? I was testing out my new Lumix on a slightly older are of town. Long story short, was approached, threatened and almost robbed by four negro fellas for accidentally filming their car while it drove by, it was only by luck that a decent amount of people approached us and broke them off me. The fuckers made me loose my lens hood too. How do I not get fucking stabbed and killed for wanting to shoot shoddy neighborhoods? Perhaps bringing a friend along next time could help? Lighting

Lighting - Basic Bitch Edition A Thread to Share >Tips >Tricks >Knowledge About lighting set-ups, optimal lighting for certian styles of photography or film, the terminology, and the styles And a thread to ask questions Such as mine: pretty new to photography still. Recently got into it on the begging of my Cosplaying GF I've fallen deeply in love with the hobby, my Partner (fellow new photographer) and I have decided to set up a studio in his shed, a fairly large space with plenty of above and side natural light thanks to skylights and windows near the backdrop areas. We would like to invest in a light set-up that doesnt rely on the natural light (for green-screen backdrops that we need evenly lit, and later day shoots) what should we start with? Most of our pictures are cosplayers, portraits with small props and set pieces Also, slightly less urgent note, how do you do evening outdoor photography with well lit subjects?
