I went out with some friends to do some more portrait/ fashion shooting. I've been trying to hone my skills more before i try to start charging for my work. Shoot me some CC, Harsh, gentle, please just make it helpful. On another note though, every time i go out and shoot i grow more more fond of film and less fond of my digital camera. It probably doesn't help that i have a K7 with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 with its esoteric auto focus and my K7's random ass sensor. but regardless, film keeps rocking my world. I repeated a mistake a made a while back by shooting efke 50 at 400 and pushing it two stops. Fuck me its nice. [EXIF data available. 2012-09-05 to 2012-09-12 “Spherical” Well /p/, after you’ve been forced to take pictures of others/yourself over the last month, it’s time for inanimate objects again. So lets keep it simple. Your subject should be something spherical. Whether it is a sphere, circle, ellipse, or whatever, as long as it doesn’t have edges. >inb4 an Asshole. No, that doesn’t count. In fact, none of your orifices do. Bonus Points: A couple balls rolling down a moebius band Remember: The whole point of these challenges is to get you to go out and shoot something new. Don't post something you took before September 5th. If you're posting something without EXIF, please mention when you took it so we know if you're actually paying attention.

How does /p/ feel about compact system cameras? I'm traveling and I'd like something more capable than my TZ5.

How do photographers take pictures of themselves? Being the only photographer in the family, I am able to give my family members an awesome composed image. This could not be said the other way around. I can never get a decent portrait shot of myself when given the camera to someone else. I have tried using self timer but those images never come out properly composed. Some strategies for awesome self portraits?

Examples of 'depth' in film photographs

Way before I started taking photo's I had sold (while working in retail) a Minolta DSLR to a wedding photographer who had previously only shot on film. He came back a week later describing how the digital camera didn't have the 'depth' that he was used to seeing on film, and that the resulting digital images looked 'flat' in comparison. At the time I didn't really grasp what he was on about, and since then I started shooting with a DSLR, and then moved my way to a 35mm and 645 format film for this reason. Even some novices have remarked on how some of the things I've shot on film 'pop' out at them. I have taken some nice photos on a DSLR, and then kicked myself for not having a film camera at hand that day. Now, I am not talking about 'depth of field', that is apparent and controllable on all cameras with a big enough sensor/frame and fast enough glass. What I am talking about is kinda hard to describe. It's a level of immersion that gives the subject more life and increases your immersion into the scene the photo was taken in. The example I have is a rather simple snapshot, but the depth in the coiled garden hose is apparent, even when scanned and seen digitally. Some of you may think I'm talking bullshit, or that you can create the same look with digital manipulation, but I have not seen it yet. Others will know what I am talking about and may care to share some images that show this 'depth'. [EXIF data available. MF gearfags unite, Hassy 500cm (or 503cx?), or the Pentax 6x7? It's my first proper MF (I've tested out a flexaret for some time). The Hassy is double the price, but has changeable backs and metered prism. I've heard they're just as heavy, but the Pentax is supposedly softer and better for portraits - While the Hassy on the other hand is better for architecture, and comes off as, sterile? Of course, this was the Pentax forum, so.. [EXIF data available. Japan Part 2: Medium Format

Welp, here's the last of my Asia pics. I'm more happy with how these came out than with any of my previous sets, so I suppose you could say I saved the best for last, subjective as that may be. These are much more deliberate than my previous set from Japan, and therefore, composition plays a much larger role in how I wanted these to be presented. Ergo, your criticisms are much appreciated. Concordantly. Thank you. [EXIF data available.
