Hey boys, just got my first DSLR. Bought a lightly used Canon EOS 350D from a photographer friend for $150, it's in amazing condition, with an 18-55mm lens. How'd I do?

Telecine project

Dear /p/, I'm working on a project to digitise old family motion picture film (both Super 8 and regular 8mm). For this I use my grandfather's old projector, which can be switched between S8 and 8mm. It has an attached lens which can be swiveled away, so there's nothing in front of the actual 8mm film except the film gate. It is supposed to then project on a Raspberry Pi camera attached to a Raspberry Pi of course. This takes an image every time a switch is pressed, something which is achieved by two contacts attached to a cog which makes one full rotation and thus one contact per frame, synchronising the camera to the film. A Python program then writes the image to an external HDD. I replaced the original light bulb (some high powered halogen lamp) with a high powered LED, because the slow speed necessary for capturing the images would otherwise burn/melt the film. All this is done (at least in an experimental setup), except the focus. I need the original image (height: 4,0mm) to be shrunk to an image height of 2,5mm. What would be the best way to do this? I have been struggling with this project for some time now and my aunt is getting pissy because she wants to relive her youth in the colonies or something, which happens to be captured on these films. I have tried calculating with image distance and focal lengths but either I'm really not seeing something obvious, or I made a mistake, because I can't get a sharp image that is smaller than the original. I figured /p/ would know a thing or two about lenses, so maybe someone here can help me.

Bokeh/Sharpness compromise?

53 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Lense/Info help. I've been looking at paying a bit more for a decently priced lense ($1000-1500ish AUD). After some research it seems most lenses are either sharp and compromises the bokeh (think Sigma 50mm ART) or dull with terrific bokeh. (think Nikkon Nikkor 58mm). Is this always the case? currently I'm leaning towards the Sigma as the sharpness is amazing but I hate compromising the bokeh. Additionally, would fuzzing up the bokeh in photoshop afterwards help the bokeh look nicer?

Hey guys I'm new here, shooting for around 5 months. I saw a thread by Alex Burke who shoots large format. Can I take Alex Burke tier photos using a D750/D810 or a 5D2/5D3 or is the look (not colors) only achievable by large format? My D3000 just broke and I want to buy something I want have to sell or replace for a while. I'm looking for best quality, I just haven't seen any photographs like Alex's from a 35mm sensor > pic unrelated [EXIF data available. OC examples of good/bad framing?

19 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
hi /p/haggots i was hoping you could show me some examples of bad framing vs good framing using your own photos? like could you possibly grab your camera and take a photo of the first thing you see, inside or outside, doesn't matter? and show me how you would frame that object/thing/person/pet PROPERLY and then also show me how NOT to frame? im actually trying to take photography more seriously and i think framing is the most important thing to try to learn for now
