Hey /p/huckers. I'm a filmmaker and I want to move into full frame dslr (been shooting on a 7d), mostly in ample lighting conditions. However, I'm looking to do documentary work which would require a lot of existing light and any time I do night videos, the 7d is far too grainy or just doesn't pick up enough at all. I was looking at the 5d mark ii (only own the 50mm 1.4 and 17-40) or maybe the mark iii, although it is a little bit out of my price range. I do photography as well, just on the side and because my cameras can do it anyway. Does not have to be Canon, though that's preferred, and under 3k. TLDR; looking for a dslr for mainly videowork, but also stills to a lesser extent. Looking for best quality and full frame. Any recommendations? Keep it under 3k, as well. [EXIF data available. Hi. I'm just wondering how video capture works on DSLRs? I have a D3200. Does it capture at 24 MP and downsample to 1080p/720p? Or does it just capture every x lines or something? Where can I read more about how it really works?

dem halos

I am now wasting so much time to convert this one in bw (insignificant in color) The increase of contrast in the sky generates unpleasant halos on dem steel lines. Now this is particular evident at a resized/compressed 1600pix image but still evidenti in the bigger one. what do. Is it so bad? I am appliying shadow/highlight/control points in PS. Why sometimes I can close my aperture down to f32 if the minimum one is f22 on my sigma 17-70? Idk in witch mode that was but i have seen it a few times.

Taking photos of monitors/other light sources etc?

Hey guys Something that has had me a little confused for a while, but since I'm off to France next week to cover a major games tournament which will be played on CRT arcade machines, I thought I'd better deal with it now. So to set the scene, you have a couple of guys playing a game, usually in a poorly lit room and a really bright LCD or CRT. It seems you are usually forced to choose between exposing the montitor correctly and having everything really quite dark, or exposing the players properly in which case the monitor is really blown out. Obviously you can try to go for a middle ground but it's not perfect. So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the technical reason why this is? Why can't the camera record the scene as I view it? My eyes can clearly see the players and the monitor isn't washed out at all. Do cameras just lack dynamic range or something? Also I'm wondering if there are any kind of filters that can "compress" the light in a scene, so there isn't such a difference between the bright and dim parts. I was goofing around with a circular polarizing filter as it happens and noticed that in this particular scene I was able to reduce the intensity of the monitor without affecting anything else much. That is pretty much the perfect solution and was wondering if I got lucky, if there is a specific filter for that job, or is this just another one of a polarizer's uses? Pic related, the dim image on the screen is with the polarizer on and the one on the right is not. The point of focus is differenrt, but it's the difference in light intensity that I want to draw to your attention. Thanks! [EXIF data available. I had the chance to interview Aaron Ruell, more commonly known as Kip from Napoleon Dynamite. He is an amazing photographer and director has made a ton of commercials for Target. I got into detail about photography with him because I am absolutely obsessed with the nostalgic feel his pieces have. He then gave me a few tips about posing models and said something that made me think. He said “When dealing with studio or any sort of planned shoot everything in my shots are placed specifically for a specific reason. Nothing happens by chance." I took that advice into consideration. I wish I would have the opportunity to do more studio photography or at least photo-shoots instead of taking snapshits as I walk around. Anyway, anyone a fan of Aaron Ruell? Any tips on achieving this sort of feel? Also sorry I just fan girl over his pics. I will be dumping some. [EXIF data available. What the fuck are they thinking? We've had more new digital Rebels in the past two years than we've had in all previous years.

Hey /p/, do any of you guys have waterproof cameras? I'm taking a trip to Aruba over the summer, and would like to have a camera for diving/something smaller than my D-Slr. I was considering picking up a 18-135 Wr lens for my k-30 instead and just using that, but something fully waterproof/pocket able like the Sony seems like it could be a lot more useful for say snorkeling than a GoPro.

Lightening photo

Hi guys, I've ran into a problem recently that I don't know how to solve. I took this picture this Sunday on an awesome ride around the local mountains. Trying not to burn into oblivion the awesome view of the city on the background, I turned the camera to manual settings and dialed in a quick exposure of 1/1000s, of course no flash, f/2.8 and ISO 100. Problem now is, I want to postprocess it to keep the background and "lighten up" the bike. Tried tweaking the histogram but the results are somewhat poor. What can be done /p/ros?

Hi, I am going travelling soon and my gf is starting a fashion blog of some sort... I'm not really sure what she's doing. Anyway, we are looking to get a nice camera but we want to save money if we can. My friend suggested Fujifilm Finepix X100 Compact Digital Camera, and it looks pretty good, but a bit pricy. I guess my question is: Do we need that camera? We'll only be using it for blogging and taking travel photos. Thanks for reading :) [EXIF data available. gotta write a history of photo paper tomorrow, thankfully it's pretty open ended. comparitive analysis of two photographs. What would be some fun photos to compare? As long as there is an established author it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks /p/

I have a d5100 and have been thinking about getting the rokinon 85mm 1.4, and the issue, of course, is super shit viewfinder. So, after some research I decided to try and get the katzeye focusing screen to help with the manual focus. Does anyone here have any experience with both of those products (after market focusing screens and rokinon 85mm)?
