Hey /p/als. Just got my first roll of HP5 back from the shop and the tones are not at all what I expected. I am green as the grass with regards to film but to me they seem very grey and washed out. I was hoping for a more high contrast look. Is this just the way HP5 looks? Or could it have been down to my own exposure decisions or the development process? About to start into my second roll. Some C&C would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to improve. Photographs are from a trip to Derry. 1/9 - View from my apartment. [EXIF data available. Hey /p/ ; i'm currently working on a Crewdson-esque series with outdoor lighting etc and still only know the basics of lenses. I've hired a 24mm f/1.8 which seems to work nicely, i don't mind the dop - though that's not something seen commonly in crewdson's work. However i'm not entirely happy with the outcome. I was thinking of hiring a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens (to coincide with another shot i'm working on of portraits in studio) it's quite a stark difference, but i obviously won't be working such a distance as crewdson due to his complex lighting, the only thing i'm worried about with this lens is how many feet i would have to stand from my subject to get a full body shot and also shoulder and head shot. I was also considering hiring an 85mm f/1.8 if the 70-200 isn't available. What are peoples opinions on all this? Also might be interesting to discuss crewdson/alex prager style lighting but on a cheaper and simpler level (3-5 lights). (apologies if any of my statements don't quite make sense - still learning) Cheers

I'm a total novice in the world of photography. The extent of my hardware, let alone knowledge, is limited to my Android. However, I have an idea for a collection of photographs (portraits) that I'd like to explore. Any suggestions on how best to start? Thank you in advance.

Pic unrelated, Could someone edit this video to make the fight look better? Maybe some slow motion/fast motion, just try to make it look very dramatic and put the music in the background as Burning heart from Survivor? http://youtu.be/U_tWmte6wmg

Looking for peoples experiences and opinions on what some of the best Canon FD lenses are. On a side note i just won this lens on ebay for 15 bucks but it looks different from all the other canon 135mm f/3.5 lenses online? Should I be worried? Does anyone have any experience with this lens?

Just wanted to stop by and say that this gave me a good laugh. As a photographer I love these kinds of inside jokes. I don't actually browse /p/ though.

I have a 40mm Voigtlander lens and a 85mm Jupiter 9 for my rangefinder, but it doesn't have either of those focal lengths in the built-in viewfinder. Is my best option just to buy two hot shoe viewfinders for those focal lengths, or are there any multi-focal length viewfinders that cover the two I need?

Okay /p/. It's time to have a little fun. Here is a pixel peeper challenge for you all. Took 9 photos with different lens/body combinations with various modern primes and zooms, and "old manual focus" lenses using a Canon 5D2, Leica M9, NEX-7 and Canon EOS-M. Below are 9 images (numbered) of test scene that you'll need to take the challenge AND 1 numbered image with color charts from each combo. Have some fun, peep some pixels, and take the survey: SURVEY IS HERE: https://juventio.wufoo.com/forms/r7p3k5/ BLOG POST WITH MORE INFO AND ALL THE IMAGES: http://www.leica-boss.com/2013/09/pixel-peeper

Are there any YouTube series that offer a perspective like DigitalRev's? I really like how Kai walks the streets, talking about the gear while he takes photos. Eric Kim has a few videos where he's got a GoPro on top of his Leica and you get to see a similar perspective but the guy is a tool and his videos are fairly bad quality and pretty boring. Pic unrelated, though it's a cool image I saw in one of the "My Nikon Life" magazines I picked up from a thrift store for 50c each. [EXIF data available. Anybody have any experience with the Lumix GH3? I'm looking to upgrade and would mainly be shooting video with it. Would appreciate some personal opinions here.

So, I'm gonna be buying a D3200, probably a refurb cuz I'm a cheap fuck, and I don't have a lot of money. I'm really wanting to learn more photography, and it's really hard to get into it when all you have are film SLRs. I'm also gonna pick up a Fotodiox FD to Nikon adapter so I can play around with some of the old lenses I have. What I'm trying to figure out though is should I get the kit with 18-55mm or should I go body only and put some money into the 35mm 1.8?
