Hi /p/ I have been interested in getting into modeling photography and weddings on the side. I am still in the Stone Age with film cameras, and I was wondering what should I do to get my foot in the door for the modeling aspect, and is getting a nikon d800E, 24-70, and a 70-200 lense a good choice, or is that pushing it? Hey anons. Fiance and I are looking for the perfect gift for her friend. She's a photographer, and a damned good one. We want to buy her admission to an advanced photography class in the Southern California area (as far north as LA). Full room and board for her. Does anyone have a lockdown on some good workshops or short-term classes? The attached picture is some of her work.

Here's my tale of total fail >Be today >At work, our photo dept are taking there annual Christmas photo >They're looking for someone to snap the photo, someone suggests me >Want to impress them so I agree >Go to spot, ready to shoot, take a test shot. Not looking good >Realize it's better without flash, should bump up ISO. Too shy to speak up >Taking a while so they all stare at me, panic and decide to put it to another AV mode. >Slow shutter speed. WTF? Panic ensues! >Someone gets and says, "let me just set it up for you" >Took photos, hold breathe to see if they like it >Ran back to my desk and will avoid to ever speak about cameras in front of them ever again tldr; went full retard in front of other phtogs, so much for impressing the cool kids... What's your tale of terror

Film to DSLR

I've been using a film SLR for some time now and now I'd like to get a DSLR I've been thinking about getting a used Canon x0D model. The main constraint is not money, but I'd rather get something that goes with my needs, i.e. I don't care much about video. 20D is probably too old now, so the contest would be between 40-50-60D Which one would you recommend?

So I'm gearing up to go out tomorrow morning. It's supposed to start snowing and I'm staying with my friend in a small town. It has one street with a bunch of little shops and Christmas decorations down the street on the light poles and shops. Could /p/ help me with some inspiration? Pic unrelated (I don't have any photographs on this computer that I can post)

Hello /p/, I'm thinking about getting into light painting. What do I need to create something similar to this picture? It looks like some kind of light stick, but I couldn't find anything like it on ebay. Is there an especific shop for this kind of accessory? [EXIF data available. I've been using the same camera, a Nikon FE, for the last three years. A couple of months ago I dropped a bag in which were the camera and some bottles of cider, and it got completely soaked in sticky sugary alcoholic liquid. Needless to say, it wasn't working anymore. I brought it to a repairman, he cleaned everything and it went back to work for a couple of weeks, then it started to act weirdly, the shutter hanged open for several seconds on 1/125 and then went back to work normally, things like that. Brought it back to the repairman, he went through it a second time, and told me he couldn't do anything more. Now it sometimes works, sometimes not. Auto never works, and usually if I try it once it messes up all other speeds as well. Wat do? [EXIF data available. Hey guys! I have a Photography Final in a few days, and wanted to get your opinions on what printer and paper I should use? My options are 1. Epson 4900 - 17" Photo Black inkjet printer 2. Epson 4900 - 17" Matte Black inkjet printer And there are a nice amount of glossy and matte papers. Should I print glossy or matte??? Prints will be at least 8x10 and i need 10 of them. My pictures are all shot in the same location on the same day near the golden hour. All of the photo are relating to graffiti scenery, most out doors, not focusing just on one piece but rather the whole scene. [EXIF data available. I primarily shoot with a Pentax K5, which I use with some modern K-mount glass and also some screw mount lenses which I have an adapter for. This all works great. I happen to own a Canon 800mm FD 5.6L for reasons that aren't worth explaining and thought it would be fun to play around with such a long lens. Is there any way to use it with my current camera (adapters) without horrendous image quality? Thanks [EXIF data available. I went to the museum on Friday night and about 7 out of 10 people had a base model Canon or Nikon SLR. Why are SLRs so popular with casual photographers now? I got a Rebel XTi a few years back (took years of photography in high school and learned with an AE-1 Program, developing my own photos in our black and white lab) I want to upgrade, I love taking photos but I don't want to be one of those faggots with an SLR only taking casual photos. Should I just buy a Sony rx100 or a Canon gx1 or something?
