DSLRs on the beach

Ok, so I'm going to be going to LA for a trip, and want to do some shooting (well, honestly mostly video) with my GH2 on the beach. But as far as I know, my camera is not "weatherproof" or whatever, which I'm not sure would even help in this case. Basically, what are the chances of sand fucking up my camera/lens? I'm not planning on getting close enough to the water to get splashed, so I'm mostly worried about sand/salty air/whatever.
