What is the best three prime lineup for the average photographer?

I'd say it was a 24mm, 50mm and 200mm

I bought myself 18mm, 50mm, 90mm. Covers me perfectly. Had the 135mm before and I found it to be useless for my type of shooting.

3 lenses are the most you usually need to take with you on any outing if you plan where you are going to go and what you are going to shoot. sometimes I chose what camera I am going to take before I leave the house and only take 1 lens.

My usual 3 lens kit but sometimes I skip the 21 and go with the 90 depending where I go.

21mm Elmarit M
35mm Summaron
50mm Summicron

rest of kit that sometimes contribute

35 Color Skopar
50 Planar
90 Elmarit
135 Hektor

Honestly, I don't really have any problems with that list.

If you're more geared towards photographing people, I might say 35, 85, and 200, but still 24, 50 and 200 is a nice setup.

For APS-C (crop)
17mm
35mm
85mm
150mm

For FF
20mm or 24mm
50mm
100mm (macro)
200mm

For FF yeah, if that's a crop then you're doing it wrong.

No ultrawide, no short tele, no super tele...not quite "all" bases.

24mm 35mm 85mm.

24 for wide angle work. Wide enough for almost everything, but not so wide that it is niche.

35mm for walk around and general use.

85mm for portraits and mild telephoto.

If you need longer than 85mm, then you are probably not doing "average photography", but rather sports or birding.

I find it has a similar colour and contrast to some of my old Nikon gear. It is good from about 5.6 and above, here it is at f8

it falls apart a bit wide open but still ok. here it is at 2.5

I prefer it for and use it for colour, but for black and white I use my Leica glass because of the softer contrast
